Race 1 Contact 1300 Cummins Handicap 1200 metres
NEVER POINTLESS (D Pisani) – ($7.50) Withdrawn at the barriers at 2.25pm on veterinary advice after getting both front legs over the front of the barriers. Trainer Mrs Lefoe was advised that prior to that gelding again starting in a trial or race, a veterinary certificate of soundness satisfactory to the Stewards must be produced.
REGATTA DAY (C Spry) –
($51) Withdrawn at the barriers at 2.26pm on veterinary advice after being
kicked by another runner in this above incident.
Stewards subsequently ordered that all monies wagered on NEVER POINTLESS and REGATTA DAY prior to 2.25pm be refunded. All successful wagers made with bookmakers were subject to the following deductions:

As a result of these two withdrawals, this race commenced several minutes late.

CANDLESTICKS (M Tyndall) – Mistrode at the 650m and began to yield ground.
Race 2: National Road Transport Hall of Fame Handicap 1000 metres
Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer W Savage in regards to the riding instructions he intended to give each rider bearing in mind he had 3 runners.
PURRFECT PARAGON (K Gladwin) – Yielded ground from about the 800m before running home well over final 200m. When questioned rider reported that the gelding resented the kickback in the early stages of the event.
SUPER BRYAN (L Crow) – Commenced awkwardly.
ROYAL CHOICE (F Bergstrand) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner and momentarily tightened between runners shortly after jumping.
CELESTIAL ME (B Huppatz) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
I AM GROUSE (M Tyndall) – Commenced awkwardly and inclined to get its head up whilst racing fiercely in the early to middle stages of the event.
THEATREMAN (K Brooks) – Raced wide throughout.
JUST TOO HARD (B Davis) – Commenced
Race 3: Cummins Truck Engines Handicap 1000 metres
MISS BIANSHEE (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly and raced wide throughout.
PASSING PARADE (M Tyndall) – Commenced awkwardly and raced wide throughout.
PENNY FACE (D Pisani) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
WILD RUN (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner and inclined to lay out rounding the home turn.
BLAME IT ON RIO (K Brooks) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
SUNSHINE EXCEL (W Kerford) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Steadied off heels at the 700m and angled outwards to obtain clear running.
SHE’S NICE (F Bergstrand) – Steadied along the rails at the 650m and mistrode.
HARADIS EAGLE (B Huppatz) – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: The Valvoline Handicap 1600 metres
STRATIGRAPHY (W Kerford) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and again near the 1250m.
SHADOW DUNES (B Huppatz) – Shifted in whilst being ridden forward just passing the 800m.
BIANCONI’S SON (M Tyndall) – Tightened for room passing the 800m having to be checked and blundered from heels almost dislodging its rider.
PERESSINI (P Denton) – Bumped with another runner at the 1250m whilst racing along the rails and had to be steadied.
LE COMMANDO (B Davis) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Taken in by another runner just passing the 800m.
General: On inquiry B Huppatz pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137(a) of careless riding with the specifics being that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when not clear resulting in LE COMMANDO being taken in onto BIANCONI’S SON which was checked and blundered from heels almost dislodging its rider. B Huppatz had his licence to ride in races suspended to commence midnight 27th August and to expire midnight the 10th September (3 NT meetings). B Huppatz was further advised of his right of appeal.
Race 5: The Cummins Cup 1400 metres
REMBRANDT (L Crow) – Slow
into stride bumping with another runner.
KING’S PARDON (B Davis) – Commenced
awkwardly bumping with another runner.
RHYTHM OF CUBA
(B Huppatz) – Blundered from heels near the 600m.
LADY PHROMILY (D Pisani) –
Shifted in near the 600m.
General: On inquiry
jockey D Pisani was found guilty of a charge under AR137(a) for careless riding
with the specifics being that near the 600m he allowed his mount to shift
inwards when not sufficiently clear causing RHYTHM OF CUBA to be tightened for
room and as a result blundered from heels. D Pisani had his licence to ride
in races suspended to commence midnight the 26th August and to
expire midnight 4th September (2 NT meetings). D Pisani was
further advised of his right of appeal.
