Prior to the start of this event Stewards questioned Mr A Trengrove in regards to the late scratching of his runner BELLBOOKANDCANDLE. Mr Trengrove advised Stewards that the gelding was running a temperature and had discharge from his nostrils. Mr Trengrove also advised Stewards that it had a slight discharge from a nostril last night. Stewards accepted Mr Trengrove’s explanation although he was reminded of his obligations to notify Stewards as soon as practicable when noticing any condition which may cause that runner to be withdrawn.
GILBEAU was inclined to over race slightly in the early stages of the event.
Jockey S Bailey was found guilty of a charge under AR137A4 (g) in that he used his whip on his mount GILBEAU when that gelding was clearly winning.
Stewards fined S Bailey the sum of $150.

HEMMI HUSSY was a late scratching at the barriers at 5.58 on vets advice after becoming cast in the gates. Stewards ordered all monies wagered on HEMMI HUSSY to be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of HEMMI HUSSY to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 3 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 4 cents in the dollar.
Subsequent to this event C Pollard trainer of HEMMI HUSSY was notified that prior to that mare again starting, a Veterinarian Certificate satisfactory to the Stewards must be produced.
WONDERLAND AVENUE raced wide without cover throughout the event.
Stewards questioned C Dean rider of WONDERLAND AVENUE to his ride on the gelding. C Dean advised Stewards that he was staying out of the kick back of dirt as his mount was making ground. C Dean was reminded of his obligations to ensure that his mounts are given full opportunity to win or obtain the best possible position in the field.AR135(b).

SKIMMING ALL was inclined to race fiercely for the first 800m subsequently causing its rider C Haddon difficulties in controlling that gelding.
As the gates opened MUST MAKE MAGIC a little slow into stride. Approaching the first turn MUST MAKE MAGIC had to ease of the heels of SKIMMING ALL which was racing forward.
