Race 1: 0-58 1300m
Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in regards to the riding instructions he intended to issue bearing in mind his stable had multiple runners in the event.
STAR D’VEGA (M Hagley) – Bounded at the start. Steadied inwards from heels and lost ground near the 800m.
BO ZEPHYR (W Davis) – Slow into stride.
General: On inquiry jockey B Huppatz (ALPHA MATE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that near the 800m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when not clear resulting in STAR D’VEGA (M Hagley) having to be steadied inwards from heels and as a result lost ground. B Huppatz had his license to ride in races suspended for a period for 1 NT meeting to expire after 13 April, 2018.
Race 2: 0-76 1200m
MURPHY (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly and knuckled at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
WOOGIE (B Davis) – Impeded from heels near the 950m.
HOWDEE (M Hagley) - Tightened for room and restrained near the 950m.
General – On inquiry jockey C Spry (EL TORANADO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that near the 950m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when not clear resulting in HOWDEE (M Hagley) being carried inwards, tightened for room and restrained. C Spry had his license to ride in races suspended for a period for 1 NT meeting to expire after 13 April, 2018.
At a further inquiry it was established that approaching the 800m E TORANADO again shifted inwards when not fully clear resulting in WOOGIE (B Davis)being impeded from heels. Jockey C Spry was reprimanded for careless riding for not allowing sufficient clearance when crossing.
Race 3: Benchmark 54 1200m
MY SNIP (K Gladwin) – Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that in his opinion the gelding had not backed up since winning the previous Thursday and further had not appreciated the increased weight carried in today’s event. Trainer P Cole agreed with these comments and advised that in future he will space the geldings runs where possible. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
MACON COUNTY (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer J Manning was advised of the provision of AR53.
STACKHOUSE (M Hagley) – Raced wide throughout.
Race 4: Class 2 Handicap 1000m
SOPHACLES (C Spry) - Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout. Trainer C Spry subsequently reported that the gelding bled from both nostrils after returning to his stables and he was advised of the provisions of AR53. Trainer further advised the gelding will now be retired.
CEDAR FALLS (V Arnott) – Slow into stride.
SPEND UP (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly. Following the unplaced performance a post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.
Race 5: 0-64 1600mNo incidents to report
Post race samples were taken from all winners. Pre race samples were taken from STAR D’VEGA, WOOGIE, STACKHOUSE, MACON COUNTY, SPEND UP & CELEBRAKTI.
Stable compliance – Stable hand J Brosten was fined $100 for failing to wear covered footwear when leading a horse at track work – AR175(p)
Race 1 – Trainer G Clarke fined $100 for negligence in failing to confirm the riding engagement for BO ZEPHYR – AR175(k)
Race 2 - Jockey C Spry was reprimanded for careless riding on EL TORANADO – AR137(a)
Race 1 – Jockey B Huppatz was suspended for 1 NT meeting for careless riding – AR137(a)
