Stewards conducted stable inspections on race morning which included examining all runners engaged to compete and checking for compliance with the recording of administrations and treatments.
General: On inquiry trainer N Bruggemann pleaded guilty to a charge under AR178E(1) in that on race morning she applied a poultice to the off hind leg of LIBERTY HILL by way topical application without seeking the permission of the Stewards. Acting under the provisions of AR178E(2) Stewards permitted the gelding to compete as they were satisfied that the product applied contained no prohibited substances. A post race sample was taken from the mare after competing in race 4. Ms Bruggemann was subsequently fined the sum of $300.
Race 1 Red Centre Technology Partners Handicap 1400 metres
SHOOT ‘N’ SCOOT (C Spry) – Bumped at the start.
ESSENTIAL ELEMENT (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout
MCKENNA (S Ridler) – Knuckled at the start.
THE NIGHT SKY (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout.
ROYAL CHOICE (N Rose) – Knuckled at the start and then bumped another runner. Steadied near the 1200m.
WORTHINGTON (E Brown) – Lay inwards under pressure over the final 100m with the rider having to stop and straighten his mount.
YOUKNOWTHEDRILL (C Haddon) – Bumped at the start. Steadied near the 1200m.
Race 2: Sky Racing Handicap 2000 metres
WICKED TYCOON (D Tourneur) – Rider reported that his saddle shifted slightly in the early stages.
STRATIGRAPHY (N Rose) – Bumped at the 400m.
NEW EMPIRE (P Denton) – Shifted ground outwards under pressure over the concluding stages.
THE WILD SIDE (J Todd) – Bumped at the 400m.
Race 3: Inglis Red Centre 2YO Classic 1200 metres
CASINO JAKE (C Haddon) – Cantankerous in the saddling enclosure. Bumped at the start.
CHARLIE BUBBLES (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.
LEGENDMAN (J Cameron) – Knuckled at the start.
STRATEGIC MAN (E Brown) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.
AHECKSTAR (D Pisani) – Bumped and unbalanced at the start.
Race 5: Lasseters Handicap 1100 metres
FACE THE BREEZE (J Cameron) – Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.
MITIGATE (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Bumped and unbalanced at the 1000m.
MINE CRAFT (D Tourneur) – Slow into stride.
LUNA METEOR (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly.
ZANDERCAN (B Huppatz) – Cantankerous when leaving the enclosure and was led to the start riderless after its rider was dislodged. Trainer W Savage was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
I WANT CANDY (E Brown) – Bumped at the start.
Race 6: Arthur J Gallagher Insurance – The Soldier Lightning Handicap 1000 metres
PLANET VOYAGE (B Davis) – Knuckled at the start.
ZIZZELDO (N Rose) – Lay outwards in running and raced wide throughout. Trainer N Moody advised that the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
TESTATE (C Haddon) – Slow into stride.
OVERRIDE (E Brown) – Commenced awkwardly.
SNIP OF MAGIC (T O’Donnell) – Race wide on straightening.
Race 7: Imparja Handicap 1600 metres
RIBERA DEL DUERO (K Gladwin) – Fractious prior to the start.
ARROGANT (D Tourneur) – Bumped at the start.
CHETTALLI (C Spry) – Crowded for room rounding the home turn.
ALPHA AURIGA (C Nicoll) – Raced wide throughout.
SHOGUN’S REIGN (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly.
DOON BUGGY (E Brown) – Bumped at the start.
SHOT IN THE NIGHT (B Huppatz) – Steadied near the 1400m. Held up for clear running between the 600m and the 400m.
Race 8: XXXX Gold Alice Springs Cup 2000 metres
Stewards conducted veterinary inspections of all runners engaged in this event on Friday 28 April, 2016. REVENGEFUL had received treatment for a mild bout of colic and was again examined on Saturday and Sunday mornings and subsequently withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice.
SATURDAY SORCERER (P Denton) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that his mount commenced to lay outwards rounding the turn out of the home straight and in his opinion failed to travel in running and was under pressure mid race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be showing signs of gastro intestinal condition. Trainer Mr N Moody subsequently advised Stewards that the gelding seemed to be fine on returning to his stables showing no signs of any abnormalities and was of the opinion that the gelding may possibly be trained off and come to the end of his preparation.
THE RUFFIAN (J Cameron) – Slow to begin. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that the gelding failed to travel at any stage in running despite her continued urgings. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
BEEDEEKAY (N Rose) – Slow to begin and bumped at the start.
MONTALTO (C Spry) – Bumped at the start.
SPARTAN EAGLE (B Huppatz) – Inclined to lay outwards over the concluding stages.
WHISTLE STOP (S Ridler) – Raced wide on straightening.
BIG MAN (B Davis) – Bumped at the start.
PRETTY BLONDE (M Tyndall) – Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that despite being ridden along from the 600m her mount made only moderate ground in the straight.
Post-race samples were taken from all winners and LIBERTY HILL (R4), BIG MAN (R8) & SPARTAN EAGLE (R8).

Race 4 – Trainer N Bruggemann was fined $300 for a breach of AR178E(1)
Race 5 – Jockey B Huppatz was fined $300 for a whip breach AR137A(5)(a)(i)&(ii)
Race 6 – Jockey J Cameron was fined $50 for negligence in riding with the incorrect colours AR175(k)
Race 8 – Jockey C Spry was fined $200 for a celebratory gesture prior to winning post AR137(c)
Race 5 – ZANDERCAN – must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards.
