Shortly after the start RULING TO WIN shifted in abruptly taking GENERAL CLAUDIA in onto PILOS which in turn was taken in onto BUSTLING COWBOY. As a result GENERAL CLAUDIA was hampered and lost ground, PILOS and BUSTLING COWBOY were also hampered.

Near the 100 metres SARLAT was inconvenienced by GREAT PLEASURE which had a tendency to shift in from RULING TO WIN.

P Shiers rider of SCAT SINGER requested permission to be replaced as the rider of that gelding. P Shiers stated that as he was riding light in the last race he wished to have a drink and conserve his energy. Stewards accepted his request and replaced him with B Davis.

Prior to the event the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon inspected LEGAL PUSRUIT and reported it was lame in the off hind. Acting on this advice stewards withdrew the gelding at 3.19pm. Stewards ordered all monies wagered on LEGAL PUSRUIT to be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of LEGAL PUSRUIT to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 9 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 10 cents in the dollar.

Shortly after the start GILBEAU was tightened for room between PELICAN HEAD and BARSTOOL.

Stewards found J Cameron rider of EXALATION guilty of a charge under AR 13A(3) with excessive use of the whip on that gelding. J Cameron was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Sunday 9th August and stewards ordered the forfeiture of her riding fee and percentage for this race (AR 196)(2).

As B Davis was indisposed stewards permitted H Bowman to replace him as the rider of PORT PEGASUS.

On jumping away ONLY FEATHERS shifted out and bumped FRESH TELL.

As K Gladwin was to be overweight stewards permitted N Stanley to replace him as the rider of LOOKOUT.

K Gladwin was fined the sum of $200 for accepting the ride on LOOKOUT for which he was subsequently overweight AR120(b).

After passing the winning post the first time HONOURABLE KIND was tightened for a short distance by CASH CARTER.

Approaching the 600 metres HAWKS BAY was held up for a short distance.

CASH CARTER was held up behind the weakening NOZI near the 500 metres.

D Nikolic rider of UTILITY advised the stewards that the gelding did not feel quite right over the last furlong and changed strides several times.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon inspected LOOKOUT and reported the gelding was lame in the off fore.
