Race 1: 0-66 Handicap 1000m

General: Stewards today conducted compliance checks and stable inspections which included examinations of all runners engaged to compete at today’s meeting.

GLOBAL ICON (J Lyon) – Buffeted between runners at the start.

THE HUMMEL (F Bergstrand) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Raced wide throughout.

GROUP HUG (P Shiers) – Bumped at the start.

SPOILSPOT (S Cahill) – Slow to begin.  Wide from 500m.

Race 2 – Handicap 1000m

KINGS PARDON was declared a late scratching at 11:08am on veterinary advice following trainer G Clarke reporting that the gelding was lame in the off fore leg. A veterinary clearance is required prior to the gelding racing again.

GIRLS AWAY (J Todd) –Refused to be loaded into the barriers and was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 1:07pm.  Trainer G Clarke was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

The following deductions were applicable to successful bets placed prior to 1:07pm.

ACTION AGAIN (S Cahill) – Fractious prior to the start.  Bumped at the start.

AFRICAN PULSE (M Tyndall) - Bumped at the start and slow to muster early speed.

KING DEJOUR (V Arnott) – Trainer J Manning reported that the gelding is resuming after undergoing knee surgery and this information was disseminated.  Fractious prior to the start.

MOOT (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3 – 0-70 Handicap 1200m

HE'S COMMANDING (W Davis) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have sustained an injury to the near fore hoof.  Trainer K Petrick was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented for the gelding prior to racing again.

SET FOR A BUNDLE (S Brown) – Knuckled at the start.  Raced wide from the 600m.

BELLE EZ (D Holland) - Raced wide throughout.

Race 4 – Trobis 0-58 Handicap 1100m

TIBET (M Tyndall) - Commenced awkwardly. Steadied outwards from heels leaving the 1000m.

MACON COUNTY (V Arnott) - Commenced awkwardly.

TIGRA (R Vigar) - Raced wide from the 700m.

SUNSET STRIP (C Spry) – Impeded from heels when making ground near the 200m then angled outwards to improve.

ANOTHER MAN'S GAIN (S Ridler) – Tightened for room and restrained near the 400m.

SPARKLING VIXEN (J Todd) – Steadied outwards from heels passing the 700m.

SHE'S NICE (F Bergstrand) – Impeded between runners.

General - On inquiry, jockey R Vigar (TIGRA) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR173(a) for allowing his mount to shift ground passing the 700m resulting in SPARKLING VIXEN being steadied outwards.

On inquiry jockey V Arnott (MACON COUNTY) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that whilst riding her mount along she did permit the gelding to shift inwards near the 400m when insufficiently clear resulting in ANOTHER MAN’S GAIN (S Ridler) being tightened for room and restrained from heels.

V Arnott’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of one (1) NT meeting commencing midnight tonight, 1st August 2016, and to expire midnight 6th August 2016.

Race 5 – BMNT 69 Handicap 1300m

GOLD BUNDLE (S Brown) – Tightened between runners and restrained passing the 650m.  The gelding returned from the race having bled from the off nostril. Trainer C Pollard was advised of the disabilities placed on the gelding under AR53A. 

DANCING POETESS (F Bergstrand) – Lay in and away from another runner passing the 650m. A post-race veterinary examination was conducted with no abnormalities detected.

General - On inquiry it was established at approaching the 650m GALLANT EXPRESS (D Yendell) shifted out marginally and at the same stage DANCING POETESS (F Bergstrand) also shifted ground slightly when laying inwards and as a result GOLD BUNDLE (S Brown) was tightened for room and restrained.  Stewards were satisfied that no rider was at fault in this incident and therefore no further action was taken.

Race 6 – 0-62 Handicap 1300m

MAVERICKS (C Spry) – Raced keenly in the middle stages.

HEIRDOM (D Yendall) – Slow into stride.

BEDISGUISED (K Gladwin) – Raced keenly in the middle stages and was held up for clear running from the 550m until enter the home straight.

DANCE THE BEAT (V Arnott) - Raced wide throughout.

Race 7 – BMNT 70 Handicap 1600m

ABU DHABI (K Gladwin) – Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 1200m when the pace of the race eased.  Held up for clear running behind the heels of another runner from the 450m until the 300m.

PRETTY BLONDE (R Vigar) – Angled inwards across heels leaving the 100m.

MORE THAN FRANK (F Bergstrand) - Bumped at the start.

AIR STRIKER (NZ) (D Yendall) - Bumped at the start.

BELDAN (J Todd) - Steadied passing the 1400m.  Returned having cast its off hind plate in running. 

YA CRACKIN' JOKES (W Davis) - Commenced awkwardly.

Race 8 – 0 - 66 Handicap 1900m

WICKED TYCOON (D Yendall) - Fractious prior to the start.

ALDOLPHIN (F Bergstrand) – The gelding underwent a veterinary examination on race morning after receiving treatment during the week for an abscess to the near fore heel and was cleared to complete.

SAKHERO (V Arnott) – Slow into stride.  Raced wide throughout.

HAMMERED ART (C Spry) – Bumped at the 150m.  Lay inwards over the concluding stages.

QUANTUM DOT (T Berry) – Shifted outwards under pressure and bumped with another runner leaving 150m.

JIGALONG(NZ) (P Shiers) - Trainer M Hickmott advised that his riding instructions would vary from the gelding’s previous start in that he wanted it ridden more conservatively today from its wide barrier.  This information was disseminated. Steadied approaching the 1300m when racing keenly.

IDATRICE (S Ridler) – Fractious prior to the start.  Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

NEWSWORTHY (R Vigar) - Bumped at the start.

THE WILD SIDE (J Todd) – Fractious prior to the start.

Race 9 – Darwin Cup 2000m

General - All runners engaged in the Darwin Cup underwent a veterinary examination on Friday 29/7.

MONTALTO had swelling to the off fore which was diagnosed as a flexor tendon injury and therefore was withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice.

WHISTLE STOP was mildly lame in the off fore heel and after being re examined on 31/7 was cleared to compete. Stewards approved a plating change of bar plates in front and this information was disseminated. 

KAYNO also underwent a further veterinary examination on race morning (01/08) and whilst displaying no lameness did have swelling to the near fore fetlock and trainer K Petrick was granted permission to withdraw the gelding.

LIGHTINTHENITE (P Shiers) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that his mount had travelled comfortably in running but when placed under pressure on straightening failed to finish the race off as anticipated.

OUR VALDIVIA (NZ) (P Denton) – Returned with blood in its mouth.

FINKE (B Davis) -Blundered at the start and bumped another runner unbalancing its rider. Returned with a self inflicted laceration to the off fore heel. 

SATURDAY SORCERER (D Yendall) – Bumped at the start.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover and displayed an increased respiratory rate. Trainer J Manning subsequently advised that the gelding has undergone a lung wash and he will advise accordingly of the results.

CANNY BALLAD (R Vigar) – Held up from clear running from the 550m until entering the home straight.


Summary

Swab samples were taken from all winners, WHISTLE STOP and FINKE.

Pre race sample were taken from MOOT, CADMAN, STEREOSONIC, LE COMMANDANT, BESTIHAVEEVERHAD, BEDISGUSED, GIRLS AWAY, KILIM, JIGALONG, BATTLE OF HASTINGS and all runners engaged to compete in Race 9.

All riders were breath tested for alcohol.
