General - All runners engaged in race 9 were subject to a veterinary check on Friday 4 May, 2018 which included an examination of treatment records and no issues were identified.

15 horses that competed at the Alice Springs meeting on 5 May, 2018 that also accepted today each underwent a veterinary examination and were cleared to compete.

As part of TRNT compliance measures Stewards also conducted stable audits, inspected all runners engaged to compete on race morning, checked treatment records and facilitated surveillance of the Heath Road stables during the morning and afternoon of race day.

Prior to riding, all riders were also subject to breath analysis testing for the detection of alcohol.

Race 1  Mecure Alice Springs Resort  Handicap 1400m

JAILHOUSE ROCK (J Lyon) – After being declared a late scratching at the Alice Springs race meeting on 5 May, 2018 the gelding underwent a veterinary examination upon arrival on course and was cleared to compete. Bounded at the start. Raced wide throughout and yielded ground in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

TICKET TO PARIS (C Spry) – Crowded for room and steadied near the 700m.

URBAN BOURBON (K Cross) – Commenced awkwardly. Held up for clear running in the early stages of the straight.

SENIOR COUNCIL (B Davis) – Raced wide throughout.

General – On inquiry it was established that near the 700m URBAN BOURBON (K Cross) when racing keenly shifted inwards marginally resulting in TICKET TO PARIS (C Spry) being crowded for room and steadied.

Race 2: Sky Racing Handicap  2000m

Due to an airport delay jockey M Cahill was unable to take the ride on WINDFOLA and Stewards permitted apprentice S Fawke to replace him.

HUSSOR (J Lyon) – Raced in restricted room and bumped passing the 1700m.

LOTION (D Tournour ) –  Raced in restricted room and bumped passing the 1700m. 

WINDFOLA (S Fawke) – When questioned regarding his riding in the early stages of the event rider advised that he had been instructed to race in a prominent position if possible but after being ridden along early his mount commenced to race keenly and passing the 1700m he was caught four wide. As he was unable to lead and had placed the runners inside his mount in restricted room, he elected to ease the gelding and settle behind the leaders. Rider was cautioned in relation to placing pressure on inside runners in this incident. 

Race 3: Inglis Red Centre 2YO Classic  1200m

SAVATOXL (B Huppatz) – Unsettled in the mounting enclosure and reared dislodged its rider who was not injured. Slow into stride. Taken outwards across heels to obtain a clear run near the 100m.

PAGHMAN (J Lyon) – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure over the final 150m.

HARRY HELLRAISER (K Gladwin) – Commenced awkwardly.

RAZOR STORM (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly. Impeded on straightening.

CINOMENM (J Todd) – Reared at the start. Raced greenly in the early stages unbalancing its rider. Lay outwards from the 650m.

General – On inquiry it was established that rounding the home turn SAVATOXL (B Huppatz) shifted inwards when being ridden along resulting in RAZOR STORM (C Spry) being impeded from heels near the 300m. Whilst Stewards accepted that SAVATOXL was racing greenly, jockey B Huppatz was cautioned for not making a greater effort to straighten his mount in this incident.

Race 4:  TDC Refrigeration Queen of the Desert  1200 metres

RHYTHM OF CUBA (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.

SACAMBAYA (J Lyon) – Bumped at the start.

CATCHTHERAINBOW (C Johnson) – Slow into stride.

GAMORA (W Kerford) – Returned from the race with blood in its mouth.

GIRL HAPPY (F Bergstrand) – Knuckled at the start.

DANCING POETESS (R Vigar) – Raced wide throughout.

MITOCHONDRA (S Fawke) – Commenced awkwardly.

EFFECTUATE (K Cross) – Tightened for room and restrained from heels near the 300m.

General – On inquiry jockey D Tourneur (HOT DEMAND) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that rounding the home turn whilst riding his mount along he permitted the mare to shift outwards when insufficiently clear resulting in EFFECTUATE (K Cross) being tightened for room and restrained near the 300m. Jockey D Tourneur had his license to ride in races suspended for a period to commence after he rides at Balaklava on 9 May, 2018 and to expire after 16 May, 2018 (4 TRSA meetings) and in addition he was fined the sum of $300.In determining this penalty Stewards took into account jockey D Tourneur’s recent race riding record and future riding commitments as he is based in SA.

Race 5: XXXX Gold Handicap  1100m

GLOBAL ICON (D Tourneur) – Knuckled at the start. Raced wide throughout.

PORT TRIANO (P Denton) – Bumped at the start.

DUKE OF YORK (R Vigar) – Raced wide throughout.

RAZOR TIME (M Cahill) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner. Inclined to lay inwards under pressure down the length of the straight.

SHINING MANE (M Hart) – Contacted the running rail and became unbalanced near the 700m.

VIA MAZZINI (J Lyon) – Tightened between runners on jumping.

General – Following this race jockey B Huppatz was examined by the Paramedics and declared unfit to continue riding due to muscle soreness as a result of him being dislodged prior to race 3. Jockey B Huppatz must produce a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Race 6: Gallagher Insurance – The Soldier Lightning 1000m

YOUR EXCELLENCY (R Vigar) – Bled from the right nostril following the event. Trainer T Halter was advised that the gelding must gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to racing again in accordance with AR53A(7).

BOOGIE WOOGIE MAN (J Lyon) – Eased down in the straight. The veterinarian reported the gelding sustained an injury to the near fore suspensory ligament.

Race 7: UBET Handicap Div (1) 1600m

STRATEGIC JEUNY (J Todd) – Bumped at the start.

ANOTHER MAN’S LOSS (L Crow) – Bumped heavily at the start.

FIVE FORCES (J Lyon) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

PLANET EARTH ( K Cross) – Bumped at the start.

TRUFFLE HUNTER (K Gladwin) – Bumped at the start.

BELLONA BELLE (D Tourneur) – Raced wide throughout. 

FREDERATION (C Johnson) – Took charge of its rider in the preliminary. Underwent a veterinary examination at the barriers and was cleared to compete

Race 8: UBET Handicap Div (2) 1600m

SHOGUN’S REIGN (P Shiers) – Crowded between runners at the start and steadied shortly after.

LET’S DREAM BIG (M Cahill) – Bumped and crowded between runners at the start and restrained shortly after.

CONCU (F Bergstrand) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped veering inwards at the start.

TOUCH OF FLO (D Tourneur) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped

Race 9: Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup  2000m

KIFAAH (B Davis) – Bumped at the start.

LAKE JACKSON (D Tourneur) – Raced wide from the 700m and bumped with another runner at the 100m.

PERESSINI (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. Lay inwards over the concluding stages bumping with another runner at the 100m.

FLOW METER (S Fawke) – Bumped with another runner at the 100m.

HILLBILLY RICH (F Bergstrand) – Crowded for room between runners approaching the finish.

ASH GREY (M Cahill) – Inclined to race keenly in the early stages of the event.
