SMALLNOCH continued to race ungenerously rounding the turn and lost ground as a consequence.

Stewards questioned R Oakford rider of INDIGO LAD which performed below expectations. R Oakford stated that the gelding failed to properly negotiate the first turn and then after being taken out wider failed to regain its balance and race truly. R Oakford further stated that the gelding eased down quickly after the finish post however did not appear to be lame.

Subsequent to the event INDIGO LAD was inspected by the Club's Veterinary Surgeon who reported that he could find no apparent abnormalities.

The Club's Veterinary Surgeon inspected PIGGOTT and reported that the gelding was lame in the near foreleg. Mr M Rattley trainer of PIGGOT was notified that a satisfactory Veterinary Certificate in respect of the gelding must be produced prior to it racing again.

Subsequent to the racemeeting Mr S Clarke, trainer of BELONG TO LOIRE, GALLADY and LEICA CON advised the stewards that he suspected that all 3 horses may be suffering the effects of a virus.

Mr Clarke advised that on Saturday night the horses all had an elevated temperature and whilst he had not as yet had blood tests taken he believed that they had a virus which may have effected their performance on Saturday.

Stewards questioned Mr L Paech who was today representing Mr M Hickmott who was not present at today's race meeting. Mr Paech stated that he did not have a letter of authority to supervise Mr Hickmott's horses as required under NT76.

Stewards considering the circumstances permitted Mr Paech to supervise the horses racing today trained by Mr Hickmott, however Mr Hickmott was fined the sum of $100 under NT 76 for failing to provide written authority for an appropriately license person to supervise his runners in his absence.

Mr Paech was also advised that he does not hold the necessary qualifications (Cert III) for supervising horses in a trainers absence and if he wishes to do so in future he should take steps to gain appropriate qualifications.
