Race 1 - SPECIAL CONDITIONS HCP - 1200 metres
When the gates opened SPAKATAK was slow to begin.
Stewards fined S Sheargold rider of LOVE YOU SOMETIME $200 for making a celebratory gesture prior to his mount passing the winning post (AR 137(c)).
The Club's Veterinary Surgeon inspected MARCO LARGO and reported the gelding had blood in the off side nostril. Trainer of MARCO LARGO Mr G Leech was notified under AR53 A(b) the gelding must gallop 1000 metres before racing again.
When the Club's Veterinary Surgeon attempted to further inspect MARCO LARGO some 10 minuets after the race she reported that the gelding was being taken from the course. Stewards requested Mr Leech the trainer of MARCO LARGO to bring the gelding back to the saddling area.
Subsequently stewards reprimanded Mr Leech for attempting to remove MARCO LARGO from the saddling area prior to the required 30 minutes having elapsed (AR 117(3)).
1st LOVE YOU SOMETIME, 2nd WYREEMA, 3rd SPAKATAK
Race 2 - CLASS B HCP - 1000 metres
Mr K Lamprecht trainer of RATATOUILLE was fined $50 for failing to declare his rider for that gelding as requested by NT 129.
Prior to being placed in the barriers M Horobin was dislodged from his mount HOLLYWOOD DREAM and W White was dislodged from his mount HEMMI HUSSY.
Both riders and horses were passed fit to run. However as the saddle on HOLLYWOOD DREAM had been damaged and to avoid an unnecessary delay stewards ordered the withdrawal of HOLLYWOOD DREAM at 4.30pm. Stewards ordered all monies wagered on HOLLYWOOD DREAM to be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of HOLLYWOOD DREAM to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 7 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 8 cents in the dollar.
On jumping away MOSSGREEN which jumped awkwardly was tightened for room between ALCARNTSPELL and DANETY DELIGHT and lost ground.
Racing to the first turn GRAND LEADER over raced and had to be eased to avoid getting up on the heels of HEMMI HUSSY.
Approaching the first turn MOSSGREEN which was racing on the fence began to race greenly when DANETY DELIGHT shifted to the fence in front of it. At the commencement of the turn MOSSGREEN had a tendency to lay out and had to be eased off the heels of DANETY DELIGHT which shifted off the fence and lost ground.
1st ALCARNTSPELL, 2nd PICK OF THE LOT, 3rd MORTIFICATION
Race 3 - 0-73 HCP - 1000 metres
A WEE DRAM was slow to begin when the gates opened.
W White rider of OUR LAST RESORT was questioned regarding his use of the whip on that gelding in the straight. It was established that W White used his whip in the forehand manner approximately 3 - 4 times more then the permitted 5 times. He was also advised that his use of the whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100 metres was in contradiction of AR 137A(5). Stewards ordered that W White forfeit his riding fee under AR196.
C Dean rider of A WEE DRAM was reprimanded for using his whip on 1 - 2 occasions in the forehand manner more than the permitted 5 times prior to the 100 metres (AR137A(5)).
T Walsh rider of LOST IN THE STARS was cautioned regarding his use of the whip in the final stages.
1st GRANDPRIX KOTENCO, 2nd OUR LAST RESORT, 3rd CAN'T CATCH MOUSE
Race 4 - 0-58 HCP - 1300 metres
Shortly after the start DESERT SAINT was bumped by CHIC OLIVIA which shifted in. DESERT SAINT then made contact with SKIMMING ALL and bumped that gelding on several occasions. As a result SKIMMING ALL became unbalanced and had to be eased off the heels of DEPUTY MOON.
S Ridler rider of UNMERITED was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR 137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 1100 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of HINDU LION. As a result HINDU LION had to be checked.
S Rider was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 31st October (1 meeting).
Stewards questioned B Davis rider of the winner DEPUTY MOON regarding its improved performance today.
B Davis stated that the gelding had been jarring up at its previous starts and he believed it appreciated the softer track today. B Davis also stated that the gelding had been ridden in a forward manner at previous starts but without success.
1st DEPUTY MOON, 2nd ANOTHER BAY, 3rd ZORRO'S SHIELD
Race 5 - 0-67 HCP - 1200 metres
D McIntosh rider of second placed RISHIKESH lodged an objection against NIGGLE being declared the winner alleging interference near the 900 metres. Having taken evidence from the parties concerned and viewing the stewards patrol videos stewards upheld the objection. The amended placing being:
1st RISHIKESH
2nd NIGGLE
3rd EQUITABLE
When the gates opened SPURNOVER jumped awkwardly getting its head up and lost considerable ground.
On jumping away RISHIKESH shifted out and tightened MYSTICAL WOOD out onto TARCOOLA JEWEL.
S Hillibrand rider of NIGGLE was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR137(a)). The careless riding being that near the 1000 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of RISHIKESH resulting in RISHIKESH having to be checked.
S Hillibrand was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Tuesday 3rd November 2009 (2 meetings).
When RISHIKESH was checked EQUITABLE which was racing behind that gelding had to be checked off its heels. When EQUITABLE checked it shifted in resulting in HONOR REIGN racing up onto and clipping it's heels and dislodging the rider B Davis.
At the commencement of the turn near the 650 metres HYPHENATE rolled out slightly taking TARCOOLA JEWEL out onto WESTBRIDGE ROAD. TARCOOLA JEWEL made contact with the hindquarters of WESTBRIDGE ROAD and turned the gelding inwards. As a result TARCOLLA JEWEL was tightened for some distance between those runners. For some distance rounding the turn TARCOOLA JEWEL raced very tight on the inside of WESTBRIDGE ROAD.
1st RISHIKESH, 2nd NIGGLE, 3rd EQUITABLE
Post race samples were taken from all winners. Pre race swab samples were taken from Initiative, Mr Knockabout, and Hindu Lion.
Stewards will review the patrol films in relation to the whip rules.
Stewards today adjourned an inquiry into a report that licensed trainer Mr M Hickmott was seen to be leading a horse at the Fannie Bay stables on Thursday 15th October and was not wearing a high viability safety vest in accordance with the Club's policy.
