NOBLE EARL was slow into stride when the gates opened.
Rounding the first turn near the 650 metres WALTER JOHN raced ungenerously.

Prior to correct wait being declared Ms V Arnott rider of second placegetter PROPORTIONATE requested to view the stewards patrol film.
For some distance from the 200 metres VENUE (B Huppatz) had a tendency to lay in onto CELESTIAL KINGDOM which made it difficult for B Huppatz to ride his mount out in his normal manner.

Race 4 – 0 – 64 HCP - 1600 metres:
When the gates opened THE SAILOR jumped awkwardly and struck the side of the barriers resulting in its rider S Hillebrand becoming unbalanced.
Rounding the turn from the 650 metres JUST TOO COOL hung out badly.
BUZLIGHTNING was held up for short distance prior to entering the straight.
Prior to corrected weight being declared the correction of BUZLIGHTNING and FLOPITIDOP requested to view the official photo finish image. Having considered the official photo finish image with the judge the stewards declared correct weight on BUZLIGHTNING 1st FLOPITIDOP 2nd MANNING 3rd.
Mr C Pollard trainer of THE SAILOR was fined the sum of $100 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR 140A)

Race 5 – BENCHMARK 72 HCP - 1300 metres:
On jumping away BRINKLEY BOY shifted in onto HIEARCHY and then out onto EREMBOURG.
Also on jumping away HOLLYWOOD DREAM shifted out away from THUMB PRINTS and tightened ARISTOCLOCHE
