Race 1 – CLASS B HCP - 1300 metres:

HAMISH BOY jumped awkwardly when the gates opened and was slow away as a consequence.

Rounding the home turn PROPORTIONATE attempted to take a run to the outside of the leader EKRUM. HAMISH BOY which was racing to the outside of PROPORTIONATE held its line preventing that gelding from obtaining a run.  PROPORTIONATE then shifted in to the inside of EKRUM to gain a run.

Ms J Robinson trainer of GIVE ‘N’ GO was fined $20 for using the clubs colours on that gelding (NT121).

Race 2 – TROBIS 3-Y-O CLASS 4 HCP- 1200 metres:

As the gates opened ICED MAGIC reared and became cast in the barriers taking no part in the race as a consequence. Prior to correct weight stewards reviewed the video footage of the start and questioned Mr J O’Neill the starter and Ms V Arnott rider of ICED MAGIC. After considering the evidence stewards declared that ICED MAGIC had not been denied a fair start in accordance with (AR134A).

The Clubs Veterinary Surgeon reported that ICED MAGIC had suffered a laceration to the off hind leg in the incident.

Race 3 – WEIGHT FOR AGE - 1200 metres:

ANOTHER BAY stood flat footed when the gates opened and conceded considerable ground.

Stewards advised Mr C Pollard the trainer of ANOTHER BAY that a warning would be issued against the gelding for failing to jump away with the field and that prior to it again racing it must perform to the satisfaction of the stewards in a barrier trial.

Race 4 – 0-58 HCP – 1600 metres:

NOT FOR PROFIT was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported that gelding had suffered a laceration to its hip en route to the course and was unfit to start. Acting of this advice stewards ordered the withdrawal of NOT FOR PROFIT at 4:39pm

Stewards ordered all monies wagered on NOT FOR PROFITto be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of NOT FOR PROFITto be paid as follows:-

Stewards questioned Mr M Rattley who was representing Mr C Pollard trainer of NOT FOR PROFIT Mr Rattley stated that the gelding had injured itself in the float and whilst he was aware of the injury, he was initially not concerned however when he was saddled he decided to advise the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and have the gelding inspected.

Mr Rattly was advised by the stewards that his failure to report the injury to NOT FOR PROFIT on arrival at the course was a breach of AR140(a) and was of great concern to the stewards and that in future he would be expected to advise the stewards of any matter or occurrence which may have an impact or effect on a horse’s performance.

WELCOME RETURN was tightened for room at the start between THE GIFTED ONE and STIRRUP CUP both of which shifted. As a consequence WELCOME RETURN lost some ground.

Race 5 – 0 – 64 HCP - 1100 metres:

Approaching the winning post MAJOR NELSON shifted out slightly under pressure and made contact with NERO MACCHINA.

Prior to the event S Hillebrand rider of HOULGATE requested the stewards consider permitting Mr Brown trainer of the mare to scratch due to the deteriorated state of the track. S Hillebrand stated that the mare had lost both front plates when racing on a rain affected surface previously and it was his opinion that it would not perform at its best on the track as it is at present. Stewards advised S Hillebrand that as betting had already commenced on the event they would not accede to his request, S Hillebrand was further advised that there is no specific rule to provide for late scratchings due to a deterioration in the track.

During the event HOULGATE lost its near fore plate.

1st MAJOR NELSON 2nd NERO MACCHINA 3rd HOULGATE

Race 6 – 0 – 70 HCP - 1300 metres:

During the event ETHBAAL lost its off fore plate.

The Clubs Veterinary Surgeon inspected ALCARNTSPELL which performed below expectations and reported that the gelding was lame in both forelegs.

Mr L Paech trainer of ALCARNTSPELL was advised that prior to the gelding racing again he must produce a satisfactory veterinary certificate in respect of the gelding.

M McDuff rider if PILOS was found guilty of a charge under AR 137A(3) with excessive use of the whip. The details being that he commenced to use the whip prior to straightening and continued to do so all the way to the line, albeit prior to the 100 metres not in consecutive strides, which in the opinion of the stewards was excessive. Acting under AR196(2) stewards ordered that M McDuff forfeit his riding fee.

1st FASTER STRONGER 2nd ETHBAAL 3rd PILOS

Pre race swab samples were taken from ATOMIC TIGER, WELCOME RETURN, ETHBAAL, OUT OF THE DESERT.

Post race samples were taken from all winners.

 

Stewards today concluded an inquiry adjourned from Saturday 17th December into the use of the whip by S Hillebrand on BISKEY LIPS (race 4). Stewards reprimanded S Hillebrand for using his whip in an excessive manner on that mare, (AR137A(3)).
