Race 1 – MAIDEN PLTE - 1300 metres:
Prior to the race stewards interviewed Mr C Pollard trainer of WALTER JOHN regarding the ownership of that gelding.
Stewards established that the correct owners of WALTER JOHN were Mr G C Crisfield, Mr M Owen, Mr R W Randle, Mrs J C Crisfield, Mr D J Crisfield, Mr J J Brown, Mr J A Holt, Mr G T McLoughlin, and Mr L R Brown and Beat the Ambulance syn. These are not those appearing in the racebook.
Mr Pollard was advised of his responsibilities under AR56B to declare the correct owners on his stable return. Mr Pollard was advised that until such time as the ownership was in order WALTER JOHN would not be permitted to race. Further, as the gelding's colours were not registered stewards ordered that WALTER JOHN race in the club colours on this occasion and Mr Pollard was fined $20 for the use of the club colours. At the start HAMISH BOY jumped out and bumped JUDGE’S CALL.

Race 2 – TROBIS 0 - 58 HCP- 1600 metres:
Stewards interviewed Mr C Pollard trainer of THE SAILOR winner of the race which had performed poorly at its previous two starts regarding the geldings improved performance.
Mr Pollard stated that THE SAILOR had previously won when he got to the front early whereas at its last two starts where it did not get to the front early the gelding did not appreciate the dirt coming back at him and failed to run on.

Race 3 – SC HCP - 1100 metres:
At the start ROCKY BAY jumped awkwardly and lost ground.
At about the 300 metres ROCKY BOY rolled in taking COSTLYEV in onto PHANTOM VERDE.
Stewards fined Ms Kerry Petrick trainer of PALACE GENERAL the sum of $100 for being neglectful in the saddling of that gelding in that she presented PALACE GENERAL in the incorrect saddle cloth number (AR 140A)
Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the running of COSTLYEV. Stewards took evidence from G Clarke trainer of COSTLYEV, B Davis rider of COSTLYEV and S Hillebrand rider of NIGGLE.
1st DREAM FACE 2nd PHANTOM VERDE 3rd ROCKY BAY
Race 4 – 0 – 64 HCP – 1200 metres:
At the start DESERT FLARE jumped out onto ANOTHER BAY which lost some ground.
SEVEN BRIDGES jumped in and bumped MEET BARNEY on jumping away.
Prior to the start THE BEAN COUNTER reared and became cast in the barrier. At the same time BELVIDERE BABE tried to go under the front gates injuring its jockey S Hillebrand. As a result acting on veterinary advice from the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon and as S Hillebrand was unfit to fulfill his engagement stewards withdrew both horses at 5:24pm.
Subsequent to the event stewards ordered all monies wagered on THE BEAN COUNTER and BELVIDERE BABE to be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of THE BEAN COUNTER and BELVIDERE BABEto be paid as follows:-

Subsequent to the event the Clubs Veterinary surgeon inspected MEET BARNEY, which performed poorly and advised he could find no apparent abnormalities.
Mr S Clarke, trainer of MEET BARNEY advised the stewards that MEET BARNEY did not appear to enjoy running on the track which he believed was heavier today.
Stewards gave permission for C Spry rider of DESERT FLARE to ride 1kg over his declared weight.
1st MOUSAL 2nd DISPLAY 3rd SEVEN BRIDGES
Race 5 – 0 – 70 HCP - 1300 metres
As S Hillebrand was indisposed stewards allowed M McDuff to replace him as the rider of REFLEX.
As the ambulance had left the course the stewards rescheduled the start of race 5 until 6:10pm.
At the start HURRICANEPRINCE jumped out onto KINGSFORD causing KINGSFORD to lose some ground.
When the gates opened ETHBAAL jumped out taking NO RANSOM out.
Approaching the turn at 650 metres NO RANSOM laid in onto ETHBAAL and bumped that gelding on several occasions.
Just past the 1200 metres IT’S HOME had to be eased off the heels of ETHBAAL.

Swab samples were taken from all winners.
Stewards will review the films in relation to the use of the whip.
