Race 1 - 2YO CLASS 2 PLATE - 1100 metres

When the gates opened PRINCESS BLING and SING STAR were slow to begin.

Near the 800 metres SING STAR which was racing greenly and laying out, raced up onto the heels of GILLA GILLA which was also racing greenly. When the rider of SING STAR eased the filly got its head up and clipped the heels of GILLA GILLA and dislodged the rider N Stanley.

N Stanley was replaced as the rider of:

  • Race 2 PILOS by P Shiers
  • Race 3 WESTBRIDGE ROAD by D Robinson
  • Race 5 MR KNOCKABOUT by P Denton
  • Race 7 GLORIOSO by R Oakford
  • Race 8 LUCID REFLECTION by D Robinson

1st SEYCHELLES, 2nd BELLA ROSSANA, 3rd PADUWI

Race 2 - 0-66 HCP - 1200 metres

On jumping away ARAPAHO HEIGHTS was tightened for room between PELICAN HEAD and PILOS both of which shifted ground.

S Brown trainer of TAKE YOUR SEAT was fined $50 under AR 140A for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear.

1st PELICAN HEAD, 2nd ARAPAHO HEIGHTS, 3rd THUMB PRINTS

Race 3 - 0-58 HCP - 1300 metres

When the gates opened BOGUS jumped awkwardly and lost ground also SIMCONNIA was slow to begin.

During the event BOGUS suffered a bleeding attack.

Ms J Cameron rider of HUNZAGOLD was found guilty of a charge under AR 137A(2)(d) with excessive use of the whip in the final 100 metres on that gelding which was clearly winning.

Ms J Cameron was fined the sum of $200.

Race 4 - 0-70 HCP - 1300 metres

Shortly after the start SHOT IN JEST was tightened for room between GOLDRIDGE and ETESIAN and in so doing made contact with the hindquarters of both horses.

At the entrance of the straight HARGITAY was held up for a clear run and shifted to the outside of GOLDRIDGE to obtain a clear run.

SHOT IN JEST was presented at the mounting yard with the incorrect saddlecloth number. Mr P Gatt rider of SHOT IN JEST explained that he did not check the saddlecloth when he gave it to the trainer. The trainer Mr K Sweeney stated that he saddled SHOT IN JEST but did not check the saddlecloth number.

Mr P Gatt was fined $50 under AR175 (k) with negligence in providing the incorrect saddlecloth number. Mr K Sweeney was fined $50 under 140 (A) with negligence in the saddling of SHOT IN JEST, in that he saddled the gelding with the incorrect saddlecloth number.

1st HARGITAY, 1st RUDYARD, 2nd GREAT PLEASURE, 3rd FASLINATION

Race 5 - 0-62 HCP - 1100 metres

Mr M Hickmott trainer of ALCANTSPELL was fined $50 under AR 140A for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear.

1st TENNYSON, 2nd ALCANTSPELL, 3rd GREAT PLEASURE

Race 6 - BUNTINE - 1900 metres

Prior to the event OUR CHINA PLATE got down in the starting gates and became cast as a result. So as to prevent an unnecessary delay the gelding was scratched at 4.24pm. Stewards ordered all monies wagered on OUR CHINA PLATE to be refunded and all monies wagered on the event prior to the withdrawal of OUR CHINA PLATE to be paid as follows:- for the win, face value of the ticket less 17 cents in the dollar. For the place, face value of the ticket less 8 cents in the dollar.

As P Gatt was to be overweight Ms V Arnott was permitted to replace him as the rider of GENERAL MARKET.

As N Stanley was indisposed and as there were no riders available to replace him at the horses allocated weight, stewards granted permission for R Oakford to ride TAIKOREA 2 1/2 kgs overweight.

Stewards granted permission as the trainer of TAIKOREA Mr G Clarke stated that this race was the geldings lead up to the Darwin Cup and therefore it could not afford to miss a start in the race.

On jumping away UTILITY shifted out and hampered PRIVATE DAN.

During the race FULL PLATE BARD had a tendency to hang out and as a result raced wide around the turn.

Near the 300 metres UTILITY rolled out and bumped CASH CARTER.

1st UTILITY, 2nd AGAKAR, 3rd CASH CARTER

Race 7 - 3YO OPEN DERBY - 2000 metres

When the gates opened FRANCAGINO jumped awkwardly and struck the side of the gates and GLORIOSO shifted out onto SLICK SPIRIT.

Prior to correct weight being declared the connections of the second place getter requested to view the photo finish.

1st HAWKS BAY, 2nd HONOURABLE BAY, 3rd SHOUT OUT LOUD

Race 8 - WFA HCP - 1200 metres

On jumping away KIRIKRISH was taken in by KAPPA which shifted in and bumped that gelding several times.

Shortly after that start LUCID REFLECTION had to be eased to avoid the heels of PERIDUKI which shifted out.

Stewards questioned D Robinson rider of LUCID REFLECTION which performed below expectations. D Robinson stated that the horse hung in severely and he believed it was sore in front after the race.

The Clubs Veterinary Surgeon inspected LUCID REFLECTION and advised that while he could find no apparent abnormalities at this time he believed the horse may be lame when it cooled down.

Stewards advised Mr G Leech trainer of LUCID REFLECTION that prior to again racing he must produce a satisfactory veterinary certificate for that gelding.

1st FAR HORIZONS, 2nd TAOS PLEASURE, 3rd KIRIKIRISH

Mr J Spain licensed stablehand with Mr A Trengrove was fined $100 for leading 2 horses at the same time in contravention of the stewards policy outlawing the practice.

Post race samples were taken from all winners Hargitay, Rudyard, Honourable Kind, Princess Bling.

Pre race samples were taken from Agarkar, Utility, Cash Carter, Hachiman, Swepscay, General Market, Taikorea, Full pLate Bard, Private Dan, Our China Pl ate, Dieu Soleil, Old Soldier, Chosen One, Filter, Francagino, Glorioso, Hawks Bay, Honourable Kind, Let Go Johnny, Moon Mission, Que, Shaolin Do, Shout Out Loud, Slick Spirit.
