Race 1 – 0 - 58 HCP - 1000 metres:

The Club's Veterinary Surgeon inspected HOSTILE ELEMENT which performed poorly and reported that the gelding was lame in both forelegs. 

Mr C Pollard trainer of HOSTILE ELEMENT was advised that prior to that gelding racing again he must produce a satisfactory veterinary certificate in respect of that gelding.

Race 2 – 0 – 58 HCP - 1300 metres:

Apprentice rider Ms C Angel was dually declared on McKECHNIE and 1st emergency JERRYKOOLER.  As JERRYKOOLER gained a start prior to scratching time stewards permitted Ms L Hopwood to replace her as the rider of McKECHNIE.

PRINCE OF ATTITUDE was bumped by MUGGADI which shifted in on jumping away.  Shortly after JERRYKOOLER rolled out and inconvenienced PRINCE OF ATTITUDE.  As a consequence PRINCE OF ATTITUDE lost some ground.

Ms C Angel rider of JERRYKOOLER was advised that her use of the whip on that gelding which finished well back in the field bordered on excessive and in future she use more discretion in relation to the use of the whip. 

Ms T Halter trainer of MUGGADI was fined $100 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR 140A).

Mr A Trengrove trainer of CODENAME was fined $100 for presenting that gelding with incorrect gear (AR 140A).

MUGGADI which was kicked in the mounting yard subsequent to the event was treated by the Club's Veterinary surgeon.

Race 3 – 0 - 63 HCP - 1200 metres:

On jumping away FASLINATION which dwelt when the gates opened was tightened for room between WINEHOUSE which shifted in slightly and WILD WEST which shifted out abruptly, FASLINATION was badly hampered as a consequence. 

GLORIA shifted out on jumping away and tightened LONG SHORTS.

Approaching the 900 metres GLORIA was tightened for room when racing inside LONG SHORTS, DONUT and ANOTHER BAY.  When tightened GLORIA overreacted and accentuated the interference.  It was established that the tightening was caused due to ANOTHER BAY laying in initially and then DONUT shifting in away from ANOTHER BAY, taking LONG SHORTS in slightly onto GLORIA.   

Near the 500 metres HANNESBURG was held up for a clear run behind the weakening GLORIA. 

Ms J Robinson trainer of LIVELY LILLIE was fined the sum of $20 for use of the Club's colours on that mare  (NT 121).

1st OUT OF THE DESERT 2nd MAJOR NELSON 3rd WILD WEST

Race 4 – 0 - 63 HCP - 1600 metres:

When the gates opened BLAZING RHYTHM was reluctant to jump away and then raced erratically in the early stages conceding considerably ground. 

Near the 600 metres MANNING was tightened for room by FORETHOUGHT which became tight when ISHIEVER rolled in slightly. 

Mr N Dyer trainer of BILLIES COURAGE was fined $100 for failing to declare Ms J Cameron as the rider of that gelding by the prescribed time (NT 129 (c)). 

During the event FORETHOUGHT suffered a bleeding attack. Mr S Brown trainer of FORETHOUGHT was advised of the restrictions now placed on the mare under AR53A.

ISHIEVER which performed poorly was examined by the Club's Veterinary surgeon who reported that he could find no apparent abnormalities.

Race 5 - FLYING HCP - 1100 metres:

BARSTOOL bounded when the gates opened and lost some ground

1st HIDDEN SURPRISE 2nd THE SOLDIER 3rd FAR HORIZONS

Race 6 – METRIC MILE - 1600 metres:

C Haddon rider of HAWKS BAY was found guilty of a charge of careless riding (AR 137 (a)).  The details being that near the 1400 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of BLACKBRIER resulting in BLACKBRIER having to be checked.  C Haddon was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Wednesday 27th July and fined $250.  The penalty imposed is to include 1 race meeting conducted by the Darwin Turf Club. 

Ms J Cameron rider of PALMYRA BOY was reprimanded for using her whip in the forehand manner prior to the 100 metres in 2 consecutive strides.  Stewards took into account the overall use of the whip in the race when electing not to impose a penalty by way of suspension or fine.

Race 7 – SPECIAL CONDITIONS - 1300 metres:

COSSACK COURT was tightened for room at the start between TENNYSON and PICK OF THE LOT both of which shifted. 

On the first turn near the 650 metres HOLLYWOOD DREAM was tightened on the inside of TENNYSON when that gelding was tightened by ETHBAAL (P Shiers).  P Shiers was reprimanded and notified that in future he must ensure he is 2 lengths clear prior to shifting ground. 

When HOLLYWOOD DREAM was eased due to being tightened it had a tendency to lay out and ALPHA GOLD which was following had to be eased to avoid it's heels as a consequence.

1st YASEEN THE LIGHT 2nd TENNYSON 3rd ETHBAAL

Swab samples were taken from all winners.

Pre race samples were taken from Sound of Nature, Hawks Bay, Naratel, Club Liquid, Montego Bay and Very Fast.
