BACKSTOP (R Oakford) – Lay outwards rounding the first turn. Cast its off fore plate in running. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be mildly lame in the off fore leg.
CURFEW (V Arnott) – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that after missing the start she elected to shift her mount to the outside of the field rounding the first turn to avoid the kickback but the gelding failed to stretch out at any stage of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Due to the uncompetitive performance trainer Mr J Manning was advised that the gelding must barrier trial satisfactorily prior to racing again. Trainer subsequently reported that the gelding had received treatment for muscle tightness over both shoulders.

Stewards considered an objection lodged by B Davis, rider of the 2nd placed GIRLS AWAY against the winner ARRAYANES ridden by K Cross alleging interference in the early stages of the event. Whilst Stewards were of the opinion that near the 1000m ARRAYANES did shift inwards resulting in GIRLS AWAY being eased by its rider. Bearing in mind where the incident occurred and the ground lost by GIRLS AWAY, they were not satisfied that it warranted a reversal of placings and the protest was dismissed.
COMMANDING LAD (R Oakford) – Raced wide for the majority of the event.
GIRLS AWAY (B Davis) – Eased near the 1000m. Lay outwards rounding the home turn. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a swollen right eye and a laceration to the off fore leg. When questioned rider advised that his mount had been hit in the face by a clod of dirt in running but he was unable to ascertain how the gelding had received the laceration to its leg.
PRIMARY ELEMENT (F Bergstrand) – The gelding was eased down following the event and a veterinary examination confirmed an injury to the off fore tendon. Trainer Mr S Clarke was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented prior to racing again. Trainer advised that the gelding will be retired.
