Race 1 - OPEN HCP - 1200 metres

Near the 250 metres MR MECURIAL had to be eased off the heels of IWANTOOBREAKFREE and shift out to obtain a clear run due to IWANTOOBREAKFREE (S Sheargold) rolling in.

S Sheargold was severely reprimanded for shifting in when not sufficiently clear and was notified that in similar circumstances in future he would be expected to stop riding and straighten his mount.

REDADARE which weakened badly was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported no apparent abnormalities.

Ms V Arnott rider of REDADARE was questioned regarding the geldings poor performance. V Arnott stated that REDADARE did not race keenly at any stage and although it got to the lead it was always under pressure. V Arnott further stated that she recommended to the trainer that REDADARE be retired.

K Hughes trainer of IWANTOOBREAKFREE was notified that a warning would be placed on that gelding as it was difficult to load and that repetition may lead to further action.

1st TONKAA, 2nd IWANTTOBREAKFREE, 3rd MR MECURIAL

Race 2 - 0-62 HCP - 1100 metres

BENETTS LANE which was laying on the side of the barrier when the gates opened was slow to begin.

On jumping away BELLBOOKANDCANDLE shifted out taking SPEND THE MONEY outwards.

At the top of the straight BENETTS LANE and SPEND THE MONEY came together.

Over the concluding stages BENNETTS LANE had a tendency to lay in under pressure.

S Hillebrand rider of BELLBOOKANDCANDLE was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) with careless riding. The careless riding being that near the 800 metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of KOOLKANNA ROAD resulting in S Sheargold the rider of KOOLKANNA ROAD having to take hold. S Hillebrand was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire at midnight on Saturday 16th May (1 meeting). In considering the penalty stewards took into account S Hillbrands good riding record.

KOOLKANNA ROAD which weakened badly in the straight was examined by the Clubs Veterinary Surgeon who reported that KOOLKANNA ROAD may be suffering from a Respitory Infection.

The trainer of KOOLKANNA ROAD was notified that a satisfactory veterinary certificate must be produced in respect of that gelding prior to racing again.

Apprentice S Sheargold rider of PREPARING advised the stewards that he would be unable to ride at his MRW. S Sheargold explained that he had been unable to ride work of the last week and had been travelling for several days and for this reason was unable to keep his weight down. Stewards accepted the explanation offered by S Sheargold.

BUSTLING COWBOY was slow to begin when the gates opened.

On jumping away JAFTICA shifted out and tightened PREPARING which was slow to begin.

Near the 1000 metres PREPARING had to be checked when tightened for room by TAKE YOUR SEAT which for some distance had a tendency to shift in away from CEE JAYS SUN. CEE JAYS SUN in turn had shifted in with TAKE YOUR SEAT and also had a tendency to shift in away from SPURNOVER (P Shiers). It was established that SPURNOVER did shift in at a vital time and tightened those runners on its inside. Considering that there were several contributors to the interference stewards took no action other than to remind P Shiers of his responsibility to ensure he leaves sufficient room on his inside for others runners.

Near the 650 metres SPURNOVER was tightened momentarily by GO TALLY which shifted in. When tightened SPURNOVER began to lay out and as a result had to be checked off the heels of GO TALLY.

1st TOP LEVEL, 2nd MR MECURIAL, 3rd HIGH PAPA

Race 5 - 0-58 HCP - 1100 metres

On jumping away NIGGLE shifted out abruptly onto SLICK SPIRIT forcing that gelding out onto ACE WASABI, it in turn onto LINEBACKER and it in onto TUSCAN PALACE.

As a result ACE WASABI was badly hampered, and SLICK SPIRIT became unbalanced.

Near the 700 metres ONE OCTAVE HIGHER had to shift in and ease to avoid the heels of CULLENS SHADOW which shifted in abruptly.

Rounding the turn ONE OCTAVE HIGHER had a tendency to lay out.

K Hughes trainer of TUSCAN PALACE was notified that a warning would be placed on that gelding as it was difficult to load and that repetition may lead to further action.
