Race 1 New Year Handicap 1000 metres

General: Jockey C Moon contacted the Stewards prior to the meeting and advised that he had twisted his ankle and was unfit to fulfil his riding engagements. He was instructed to attend a medical clinic today and provide a doctors certificate confirming the injury and that he was unfit to ride.

Stewards approved the following replacements:

Race 1: BLUE SHORE – M Tyndall

Race 2: LE COMMANDO – S Westover (+2.5 kg as no other jockey could make the allotted weight).

Race 3: COMMANDING LAD – M Tyndall

Race 4: BACKSTOP – J Cameron

I’M A SOLDIER (S Westover) – Was resaddled behind the barriers.

SAND OF THE HOUR (R Vigar) – Slow into stride, steadied off heels at the 700m when racing forward. Raced wide rounding the home turn and into the straight.

ESTAMBUL THIRTEEN (B Huppatz) – Inclined to over-race in the middle stages of the event.

Race 2: Royal Flying Doctor Service Plate 1200 metres

HUSSAVI (K Gladwin) – Steadied off heels at the 500m.

LE COMMANDO (S Westover) – Inclined to roll in under pressure over the final 150m.

JUST A BOB (R Vigar) – Slow into stride.

Race 3: Tourism Central Australia Handicap 1100 metres

KRIS KRINGLE (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

VAN PERSIE (R Vigar) – Jumped a little awkward, had to take hold and steady at the 900m when attempting to take a run into restricted room.

Race 4: Lennie Cole Refrigeration Handicap 1100 metres

BACKSTOP (J Cameron) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MYSTIC OBSESSION (B Huppatz) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

General: Stewards questioned trainer Mr N Moody as to the improved performance of ZIZZELDO in winning this event. Mr Moody advised that last start in Adelaide was on the grass over 900m and that they went too quick for him in that class of race and he was better suited back here. 

Post-race samples were taken from all winners

Random urine samples were taken from a number of jockeys.

Race 4: Jockey J Cameron was reprimanded for additional and consecutive whip strikes in the early and middle stages and prior to the 100m – AR137A(5)(a)(ii)
