Race 1 - 0 - 64 Handicap 1300m

SET FOR A BUNDLE (M Tyndall) – Raced wide throughout.

I'M A SOLDIER (K Gladwin) - Raced wide throughout.

EDIT (C Spry) – Slow into stride.  Slow to muster early speed.

FRISKY ALBERT (B Huppatz) – Tightened for room then bumped and checked by its rider leaving the 600m.  Tightened again and was impeded passing the 400m.

SOLDIER'S SECRET (F Bergstrand) – Scrambled at the start.  Lay inwards through the middle stages and as a result shifted ground causing interference to another runner leaving the 600m and again near the 400m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off fore leg.  Trainer M Boothby was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented for the gelding prior to racing again.

SPELLROCKER (K Brooks) – Commenced awkwardly.  Cast its off fore plate in running.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg. 

General - On inquiry it was established that FRISKY ALBERT (B Huppatz) suffered interference leaving the 600m and again near the 400m as a result of SOLDIER’S SECRET (F Bergstrand) laying inwards, despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 2 - Benchmark 74 Handicap 1200m

General – The start of this race was delayed several minutes due to CESTOS requiring farrier attention prior to the start.

HE'S COMMANDING (F Bergstrand) – Knuckled at the start and then was bumped on the hindquarters by another runner.

KING DEJOUR (V Arnott) – Slow into stride and then crowded and bumped between runners.

KING KEV (S Altieri) – Knuckled at the start and commenced awkwardly.

CESTOS (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

General – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance of KING DEJOUR, rider V Arnott advised that her mount became worked up behind the barriers due to the delay in the start time of the event.  She explained that after being slow to begin, her mount then commence to race fiercely when in a three deep position and in her opinion the gelding had held its breath in running until entering the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate and was slow to recover.

Race 3 - 0 - 58 Handicap 1200m

BRIMARVI CUGAT (M Tyndall) – Dwelt at the start and lost several lengths.  Steading from heels near the 900m.

MERVEILLE (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly.  Crowded for room and steadied at the 700m.

MAKOWSKY(NZ) (S Altieri) – Commenced awkwardly.  Raced wide throughout.

NORTHERN STORM (S Ridler) – Rider reported that his mount resented the kickback and got its head in the air losing ground passing the 900m.

TATAMAGOUCHE (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly.  The gelding lay inwards and was under pressure in the straight.

SALAMAAT (R Oakford) – Rider reported his saddle shifted in the back straight and placed him at a disadvantage through the middle stages of the event.

DUBLIN LAD (R Vigar ) – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

General - On inquiry it was established that near the 700m MERVEILLE (C Spry) was steadied after being crowded for room by SALAMAAT (R Oakford) which shifted inwards despite the efforts of its rider, whose saddled had shifted in running.

Race 4 – Trobis Class B Handicap 1100m

Prior to the race Stewards interviewed trainer Ms K Petrick in relation to the riding instructions she intended to give each jockey bearing in mind her stable had 3 runners in the event.

MY COLLEAGUE (R Vigar) - Raced wide throughout.

DISCO (R Oakford) – Refused to be loaded into the barriers and was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 4:51pm.  Trainer L Walling-Denton was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

The following deductions were applicable to successful bets placed prior to 4:51pm.

CHICO BUBLES  11c place

THREE GORGES(NZ) (K Gladwin) – Slow to begin.  Raced keenly in the early to middle stages.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate and was slow to recover.

MORE MARTINIS (B Huppatz) – Rider reported that his mount lost momentum between other runners when racing greenly passing the 400m.  Raced keenly in the early to middle stages.

ALPHA MATE (S Altieri) – Slow into stride.

Race 5 – 0 – 58 Handicap 1600m

OLD STORMY (K Brooks) – Raced wide throughout.

FARAJA (C Spry) – Slow into stride.

WAVING (B Huppatz) – Impeded when racing in restricted room passing the 700m.


Swab samples were taken from all winner. Pre race sample were taken from BOMBER BROWN, ANOTHER MAN’S GAIN, SUPER SWIFT, FARAJA.


Race 2 – Trainer G Lefoe fined $200 for his negligence in saddling – AR140A(i).


Race 5- Jockey S Altieri reprimanded a whip breach (3 extra hits) – AR137A(5)(a)(ii)
