General - Stewards today conducted compliance checks and stable inspections which included examinations of all runners engaged to compete at today’s meeting.

Race 1: 0-66 Handicap 1600m

WICKED TYCOON (P Shiers) – Steadied outwards from heels when racing keenly passing the 800m and again steadied when racing in restricted room near the 700m. Impeded near the 500m.

HAMMERED ART (C Spry) – Raced wide throughout.

MOONLIGHT HUSSLER (S Cahill) - Commenced awkwardly and shifted outwards contacting another runner.  Bumped when racing in restricted room approaching the 200m.  Taken outwards near the 150m to clear secure running. Bumped inwards behind the heels of another runner and was unable to improve in the concluding stages.

POT BLACK (D Holland) – Angled outwards to improve approaching the 200m and bumped with another runner.

THING OF NOTHING (IRE) (W Davis) – Bumped and carried inwards at the start.

WAVING (NZ) (S Ridler) - Commenced awkwardly and shifted inwards despite the efforts of its rider contacting another runner. Raced wide throughout.

MITFORD GIRL (K Cross) – Bumped and then tightened for room between runners shortly after the start and consequently blundered from heels and fell dislodging its rider.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the mare to have abrasions to the near fore, head and was bleeding from both nostrils which in the opinion of the club veterinarian was due to the external trauma of the mare falling.  Trainer D Bates was advised he must present a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to racing again.

General – Stewards adjourned an inquiry into the reason for MITFORD GIRL blundering from heels and falling shortly after the start.  Jockey K Cross was transported to Royal Darwin Hospital for observations and released later in the day. She will be required to present a medical clearance prior to riding again.

On inquiry jockey C Spry (HAMMERED ART) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR137(a) for allowing his mount to shift inwards when being ridden along the concluding stages resulting in MOONLIGHT HUSSLER (S Cahill) being impeded in the run to the finish.

Race 2 – TROBIS 3 Year Old 1200m

CADMAN (R Vigar) – Slow to muster early speed.  Raced wide throughout.

THE PRESTIGE (V Arnott) – Rider reported that after being crossed by other runners passing the 1100m her mount commenced to resent the kickback and she elected to shift the gelding to the outside of the field and consequently it commenced to race truly.

SUNSET STRIP (P Denton) – Bumped at the start.

THE ROUGH DIAMOND (D Holland) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Race 3 - Weight for Age 1200m

ADJUSTER (P Denton) – Reared at the start was effected losing considerable ground.  Following the race, rider reported that in this incident his head had struck the top bar of the barriers and after being examined by the Paramedics was cleared to fulfil his remaining riding engagements.

ALPHA MAN (S Cahill) – Raced wide throughout.

SILENT WHISPER (K Gladwin) – Got its head in the air and was steadied when negotiating the first turn.

STEEP (C Spry) – Retired from the event after suffering a fracture to the off fore leg.  The gelding was subsequently euthanased on humane grounds.

Race 4 - 0-70 Handicap 1100m

GROUP HUG (C Spry) – Raced wide throughout.

STEREOSONIC (NZ) (D Holland) – Raced wide from the 600m.

STAY TIL DAWN (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance trainer G Clarke’s representative advised that the gelding had recovered without incident but in her opinion was not suited to the rise in class in addition to having not raced for a period of 4 weeks.

STREET RELATED (R Vigar) – Bounded at the start and lost ground.  Returned having bled from both nostrils.  As the gelding had previously bled on the 24th March 2016, its nominations will no longer be accepted in accordance with AR53A.

Race 5 - Handicap 1900m

ROYAL REQUEST (S Cahill) - Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide from the 600m.

FLYING TORMENTA (R Vigar) – Fractious prior to the start and slow to begin.

Race 6 - 3 Year Old Set Weights 2000m

ABU DHABI (K Gladwin) – Carried outwards and impeded near the 1400m. Raced without cover in running.

BATTLE OF HASTINGS (J Lyon) – Trainer S Paynter informed Stewards on Friday afternoon (15th July) that the gelding had received veterinary treatment for a mouth infection.  The gelding subsequently underwent a veterinary examination on race morning and was cleared to complete.

CASH LEAKAGE (W Davis) – Crowded for room near the 1400m.

DYLAN JACK (R Oakford) – Steadied outwards from heels near the 1400m.

JIGALONG (NZ) (P Shiers) – Tightened for room and checked then shifting outwards at the 1400m.

NEWSWORTHY (S Ridler) - A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

WORTHINGTON (S Cahill) - Bumped at the start.

NAMING RIGHTS (D Holland) - Bumped at the start.

THE WILD SIDE (R Vigar) – Bounded at the start.

General - On inquiry jockey B Davis (FINKE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that approaching the 1400m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in JIGALONG (P Shiers) being tightened onto CASH LEAKAGE (W Davis) which was crowded for room.  As a result of this tightening JIGALONG was checked from heels and subsequently veered outwards resulting in DYLAN JACK (R Oakford) having to steady out from heels and impeded ABU DHABI (K Gladwin). Jockey B Davis has had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of two NT meetings to commence midnight tonight (16th July 2016) and to expire midnight the 24th July 2016 and in addition was fined the sum of $1000.

Race 7 - 0-62 Handicap 1200m

KILIM (J Lyon) – Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

BOMBER BROWN (P Shiers) – Stumbled at the start. Impeded from the heels of another runner when laying outwards rounding the home turn.

HEIRDOM (F Bergstrand) – Steadied passing the 700m.

SILVER SEBRING (B Davis) – Raced wide from the 600m.

OUR SWAGMAN (D Holland) – Slow into stride.

Summary

Swab samples were taken from all winners and STEEP. Pre race samples were taken from MOONLIGHT HUSSLER, WAVING, HANDSOME TYCOON, LAGO GIRL, MOON DEVIL, BELDAN and all runners engaged in race 6.
