General – At approximately 8.30am trainer D Leech reported to the Stewards that after consulting with his veterinarian Dr J Farebrother regarding treatment that a number of his runners had received during the week, he made application to withdraw all seven stable runners engaged to compete. After verifying his concerns by confirming the situation with his veterinarian and reviewing his treatment records, Stewards accepted Mr Leech’s explanation and permitted the late withdrawal of the following horses at 9.10am.



IWAUNA (P Shiers) –Bumpedat the start and lost ground.

CRESTA CHROME (J Todd)–Commenced to resent the kickback through the middle stages and as a result raced ungenerously for some distance leaving the 700m.

HIMALAYA FLYER (R Booth)– Following the unplaced performance the gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was found to be lame in the off for leg. Trainer S Paynter was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

MCMANUS (R Oakford)– Fractious prior to the start. Bumped on jumping. Taken outwards leaving the 700m and raced wide from thereon.

TUSCARORA (V Arnott)–Raced wide throughout.

Race 2 – 0 - 64 HCP 1100M

ON YOUR WAY (V Arnott) – Steadied at the 850m.

THE HUMMEL (R Vigar) –Raced wide throughout.

BEAU GARCON (R Booth) –Bumped, carried outwards and crowded at the start. Raced wide from the 600m.

TREGORIK (P Shiers) –Bumped at the start.

General – On inquiry jockey B Davis was reprimanded for careless riding in that he permitted his mount ALL THE CREDIT to shift inwards when not clear near the 850m resulting in ON YOUR WAY (V Arnott) being momentarily steadied.

Race 3 – 0 - 70 HCP 1000M

No incidents to report.

Race 4 – 0 - 64 HCP 1300M

BRIDGEY FLYER (R Vigar) –Commenced awkwardly and veered outwards. Raced wide throughout.

TATAMAGOUCHE (V Arnott) – Slow into stride and crowded shortly after the start.

PRIMEIRO (J Todd) – Bumped and crowded at the start. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that his mount was under pressure leaving the 600m and failed to finish the race off as anticipated. A post race swab sample was taken. Trainer G Connor subsequently reported that the mare has received treatment after returning with swollen eyes as a result of the kickback.

ALPHA MATE (W Davis) –Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

BACHELOR PAD (NZ) (K Cross) – Bumped at the start.

Race 5 – 0 - 58 HCP 1200M

SENOR JUEZ (R Booth) –Bumped at the start.

MISTER BLEVAL (F Bergstrand) – Returned having bled from both nostrils. As the gelding had previously bled in this manner on 3 September, 2016 trainer K Petrick was advised that the gelding is ineligible to start again in accordance with AR53A(5).

VIOTTI  (P Shiers) – Bumped at the start.

SURROUNDED (R Oakford) – Slow into stride.

RIGHT HERE (JTodd) – Raced wide throughout.

NAMING RIGHTS  (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly.

MARY'S RED ROSE (S Ridler) –Commenced awkwardly and then bucked shortly after the start dislodging its rider who took an apparent harmless fall. Trainer S Clarke was advised that the filly must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again. Trainer reported that a subsequent vet examination at his stables revealed the filly have a gluteus muscle injury in the off hip.

CHICA CALIENTE (K Cross) - Raced wide throughout.

Race 6 – QBE CUP 1200M

STATUE OF WARRIORS (K Cross) - Raced wide throughout.

ROYAL REQUEST (J Todd) –Bumped at the start and lost ground.

HARREBS TIME (S Ridler) - Raced wide throughout.

ARCTIC SONG (R Booth) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped.


Post race swab samples were taken from all winners and PRIMIERO (R4). Pre race samples were taken from RAKITIKI, TOSS AND TELL, COME FOLLOW MW, MISTER BLEVAL, HOOK ME UP, BREWERY, CADMAN & ARCTIC SONG.

All riders were subjected to breath analysis testing for the detection of alcohol.




Race 4 – Apprentice Z Gibbs was reprimanded for failing to claim down to his MRW – NT91(c)

Race 5 – Jockey R Vigar was reprimanded for a whip breach – AR137A(5)(a)(i) consecutive use

Race 6 – Jockey R Vigar was reprimanded for a whip breach – AR137A(5)(a)(i) consecutive use




Race 5 – MARY’S RED ROSE – must barrier trial satisfactorily

Race 5 – MISTER BLEVAL – not to race (bled 2nd time)
