Race 1 – Benchmark 73 Handicap 1300m

Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer K Petrick in regards to the riding instructions she intended to give each rider bearing in mind she had three runners in the event.

WHISTLE STOP (S Ridler) – Trainer D Leech advised Stewards that the gelding would be ridden further back in the field today which is in contrast to its usual racing pattern and this information was disseminated. Angled outwards at the 200m to obtain clear running.  Jockey S Ridler was reminded of his obligations to ride his mounts out to the line.

ORION (K Brooks) – Slow into stride.

THING OF NOTHING (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly.

Race 2 – Trobis Maiden Plate 1200m

Prior to the race, Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in regards to the riding instructions he intended to give each rider bearing in mind he had three runners in the event.

LE DEZALEY (F Bergstrand) – Fractious in the barriers and reluctant to load. Slow into stride.  Raced wide throughout. Trainer was advised that a warning would now be placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

MOUSSAMBANI (K Brooks) - Commenced awkwardly.

THE ROUGH DIAMOND (B Huppatz) - Raced wide throughout.

MORE MARTINIS (M Tyndall) - Commenced to yield ground from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer was advised that a warning would now be placed on the mare’s behaviour in the mounting enclosure.

Race 3 - 0 - 64 Handicap 1200m

Prior to the race, Stewards interviewed trainer C Pollard in regards to the riding instructions he intended to give each rider bearing in mind he had three runners in the event.

ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (R Oakford) – Rider momentarily had to take hold and steady at the 650m when tightened for room along the fence.

HARREBS TIME (R Vigar) – Ridden hard in the early stages to maintain a forward position.

KISS THE CONDOR (B Davis) – Got its head down in the barriers and dislodged its rider.

BRIMARVI CUGAT (M Tyndall) – Slow into stride.

DASH ABOUT (V Arnott) – Raced ungenerously in the early-middle stages shifting in at the 650m onto another runner and getting its head further up at the 600m.

General – Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred at the 650m where jockey R Oakford (ENGINE FIFTY FIVE) had to take hold and lost ground. Evidence was taken from V Arnott (DASH ABOUT) and R Oakford. Stewards accepted both riders explanation and took no further action.

Race 4 – Benchmark 54 Handicap 1100m

EDGE OF CHAOS (K Brooks) – Tightened for room in between runners on jumping.  Over-raced in the early and middle stages getting its head up.

MAGIC GREG (S Altieri) – Jumped inwards at the start.

YOUKNOWTHEDRILL (R Vigar) – Bounded at the start.

INTERWOVEN (Carl Spry) - Commenced awkwardly and shifted out.

THE SOOTHSAYER (B Huppatz) - Commenced awkwardly brushing the barriers.

SCARLET ICE (F Bergstrand) – Prior to the race trainer reported the filly was showing signs of being in season. A pre-race race veterinary examination was performed and the filly was subsequently cleared to compete. Contacted the barrier structure on jumping and was slow to begin.  Eased out of the event at the top of the straight.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both front legs and the near hind leg.  Trainer S Clarke was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented for the mare prior to racing again.

Stewards adjourned an inquiry to a date to be fixed, into the poor performance of SCARLETT ICE and also as to its fitness to compete in this event based on post race veterinary report.

Race 5 – 0 – 70 Handicap 1600m

KING KEV (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner at the start. Ridden hard in the early stages to maintain a forward position.

CESTOS (K Gladwin) – Steadied between runners at the 800m.

AMADEO (B Davis) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.  Raced wide throughout.  When questioned rider was at a loss to explain the unplaced performance other than that his mount was obliged to race wide without cover in running.

NORTHERN STORM (S Ridler) – Steadied in between runners approaching the first turn. Commenced to yield ground from the 1100m to the top of the straight.  Inclined to lay outwards under pressure rounding the home turn.

WAVING (B Huppatz) – After the poor performance, a post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.  Trainer was advised that the gelding must barrier trial competitively prior to racing again

Summary

Swab samples were taken from all winner. Pre race sample were taken from: COPERNICUS, KING KEV, AMADEO.

Race 2 – IWAUNA – Trainer P Stennett charged $20 for the use of Club Colours.

Reprimands/Warnings

Race 2 –MORE MARTINIS– Trainer C Pollard was advised that a warning will be placed on the mare’s reluctance to leave the mounting yard.

Race 2 – LE DEZALEY– Trainer P Cole was advised that a warning will be placed on the gelding’s reluctance to load and fractious in the barriers.  Trainer P Cole has been advised that a similar performance will result in further action being taken.

Race 3 – DASH ABOUT - Trainer C Pollard was advised that a warning had been placed on the gelding due to that horse laying inwards in the early to middle stages of the race.
