Race 1 Welcome Back to 2017 Handicap 1000 metres

SEAFTA (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly.

SHORT SHIFT (C Spry) – Jockey granted permission to ride 2kg overweight as no replacement rider could ride at the allotted weight. Steadied near the 900m. Rider reported his mount felt short in its action and was eased down in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be lame in both front legs and to have sustained self-inflicted abrasions to the heels of those legs. Trainer L Gillett was advised she must present a veterinary clearance for the mare prior to racing again.

Race 2: 2017 Membership Maiden 1000 metres

ASH GREY (C Spry) – Lay inwards over the concluding stages.

BEL MAIYA (R Vigar) – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

KILLDERKING (E Finger) – Commenced awkwardly unbalancing its rider.

TIDAL TIP (K Brooks) – Reared at the start and lost ground.

PASSING PARADE (M Tyndall) – Impeded from heels inside the 100m.

Race 3: Congrats Finke Handicap 1100 metres

The start time was delayed several minutes when a section of rail in the 1600m chute was blown down when a storm front passed over the racecourse and had to be inspected prior to the commencement of the race.

GRAB FOR POWER (E Finger) – A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained an injury to the off fore frog. Trainer M Nyhan was advised he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.

HAMMERED ART (C Spry) – Trainer reported prior to the race that the gelding had sustained a small laceration to the inside of the left nostril and after being inspected by the veterinarian was cleared to compete. Shifted out to improve near the 50m and bumped another runner.

LUNA METEOR (T Gillett) – Commenced awkwardly.

MITIGATE (W Kerford) – Slow into stride and bumped at the start.

KENTUCKY FIREBALL (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly. Rider reminded of his obligation to fully test his mounts out to the end of the race.

PYXIS (M Tyndall) – Bumped at the start. Bumped on the hindquarters near the 50m.

Race 4: Cup Tickets on Sale February Handicap 1100 metres

The start time of this race was amended to 4:06pm at the request of SKY channel.

HANTUCHOVA (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and lost ground.

Race 5: Outbackraces Handicap 1200 metres

BEST A MAN CAN GET (W Kerford) – Dipped at the start.

General – As jockey C Spry was overweight he was replaced on SWIMMER by R Vigar. In relation to accepting rides in races 1 & 5 when overweight jockey C Spry was reprimanded under AR120(b) and when considering this penalty Stewards took into account that he had not breached this rule for at least 12 months.

Trainer M Nyhan was fined $100 for a breach of NT77 for failing to submit a trainer authority for horses in his stable whilst he was recently overseas.

Trainer M Nyhan was fined $100 for a breach of NT104 for failing to register a stable employee.
