NT Chairman of Stewards
General from Race 2 at the Alice Springs Turf Club meeting on Sunday 8 October, 2017.
Trainer L Whittle reported that following the unplaced performance of MOSS’N TIME an endoscopic examination revealed to gelding to have been suffering from a respiratory condition. Connections have decided to continue the gelding’s current preparation in Adelaide and it will not race for a period of 3 weeks.
General from Race 5 at the Darwin Turf Club meeting held on Saturday 7 October, 2017.
Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole in relation to the late withdrawal of TOMMY GUN from the above mentioned race. The gelding was withdrawn by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice. Veterinarian Dr J Farebrother conducted an examination in the tie up stalls prior to the race and expressed concerns that the gelding had a low body condition score and in his opinion was therefore not in a satisfactory condition to be presented to compete.
As trainer P Cole was not in attendance at the meeting he was interviewed subsequently and explained that the gelding had been under his care for its most recent 4 race starts. He acknowledged that despite being quite light in condition he had no concerns with the gelding’s fitness. He presented the results of a recent blood test taken which was noted as revealing no anomalies in relation to the health status of the gelding.
Stewards were satisfied on the evidence that there could be no criticism of the manner in which trainer P Cole prepared or trained the gelding for the race but given the circumstances he was advised that the connections of TOMMY GUN must present a veterinary certificate of soundness prior to racing again stating that the gelding is in a satisfactory condition to compete.
