General from Saturday, 16th July 2016 –
Race 1, GO! Handicap 1600m
Stewards today inquired into the reason for jockey K Cross being dislodged from her mount MITFORD GIRL shortly after the start. It was established that as the start was effected, MOONLIGHT HUSSLER (S Cahill) shifted outwards slightly dictating the racing line of MITFORD GIRL. At the same stage WAVING (S Ridler), commenced awkwardly and made contact with THING OF NOTHING (W Davis) and that runner was carried inwards causing crowding to MITFORD GIRL which subsequently blundered from heels and fell dislodging its rider. Jockey S Ridler explained that WAVING when having its first start with blinkers and pacifiers had not responded when he attempted to straighten his mount and as his mount’s hind quarters had made contact with THING OF NOTHING, he had been unable to relieve the pressure despite his efforts. Stewards were satisfied on the evidence that no rider had ridden in a careless manner and as such no further action was taken.
General - Stewards today conducted
compliance checks and stable inspections which included examinations of all
runners engaged to compete at today’s meeting.
