Race 1: TROBIS Class 2 1600m

STRATEGIC JEUNY (P Crich) – Raced wide from 1000m.

RECONNECT (P Shiers) – Raced wide on straightening. 

BELLA GIULIETTA (F Bergstrand) – Crowded shortly after the start.

Race 2: BM76 Handicap 1200m

ACTION AGAIN (C Spry) – Veered out and bumped heavily at the start.  Raced keenly in the early stages.

LOOKATIM GO (M Hagley) - Bumped and hampered at the start.

ONE FASTER (B Davis) - Bumped heavily at the start. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an elevated heart rate. 

Race 3: 0 - 58 Handicap 1000m

SHUUMATSU (W Davis) – was declared a late scratching at 4.01pm by order of the Stewards after the gelding became cantankerous when being saddled and injured trainer K Petrick. As a lengthy delay followed whilst Ms Petrick received medical treatment on course by the Paramedics and required transport to hospital, the remaining race times were amended as follows: Race 3 – 5.00pm, Race 4 – 5.35pm, Race 5 – 6.06pm

MIGHTY TAX  (V Arnott) - Raced wide throughout

EVIL MISS (P Shiers) – Proved difficult to load.

BAGGINS (B Davis) – Whipped around enroute to the barriers and dislodged its rider who took an apparent harmless fall. Bounded at the start. Attempted to buck for several strides shortly after the start. When questioned regarding this incident, rider was of the opinion that his saddle may have shifted slightly when he was dislodged before the race and this had contributed to the gelding attempting to buck. Stewards accepted this explanation but trainer G Lefoe was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding and a repetition may result in further action being taken.

HA LONG BAY (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped at the start. Cast the near hind plate in running. 

TIGRA  (J Lyon) – Commenced awkwardly at the start. Raced wide throughout. 

Race 4: 0 - 58 Handicap 1300m

GOD FORBID  (P Denton) – Raced wide throughout.

DUKE OF YORK (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly.

MACON COUNTY (V Arnott) - Commenced awkwardly.

OUR BAY ROE (M Hagley) – Dwelt at the start.

STILL A LADY (F Bergstrand) – Checked from heels near the 550m.

General – On inquiry jockey V Arnott (MACON COUNTY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that near the 550m she angled and rode her mount outwards when insufficiently clear resulting in STILL A LADY (F Bergstrand) having to check her mount to avoid heels. Jockey V Arnott had her licence to ride in races suspended for 1 NT meeting to expire after 7 October, 2017.

Race 5: 0 - 64 Handicap 1100m

Stewards interviewed trainer C Pollard in regards to the riding instructions he intended to issue bearing in mind his stable had three runners in the event.

GLOBAL ICON (F Bergstrand) - A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an elevated heart rate. 

HOWDEE (P Shiers) – Bounded at the start.

GAMORA (W Davis) – Commenced awkwardly.

VANZETTA (B Huppatz) – Slow into stride.


Swab samples were taken from all winners. Pre race samples were taken from EMJYE, EL TORANADO, DUKE OF YORK, GOD FORBID, ARCTIC SONG, ONE FASTER, IWAUNA & BELLA GUILLETTA. A number of jockeys were randomly selected to provide urine samples which will be analysed for the presence of banned substances.


Race 3 – Trainer C Pollard fined $100 for presenting HA LONG BAY with incorrect gear – AR140A(2)

Race 5 – Trainer S Clarke fined $200 for presenting VANZETTA with the incorrect saddlecloth – AR140A(2)


Race 4 – Jockey V Arnott suspended for 1 NT meeting for careless riding – AR137(a)
