WANA DECISION (W Davis) – Rider was dislodged from his mount near the 200m.
General: Stewards conducted an inquiry into the reason for jockey W Davis being dislodged from WANA DECISION near the 200m. It was established that the saddle commenced to shift near the 600m and when attempting to ease his mount down, the saddle moved further back and to the side and the gelding reacted adversely by attempting to buck and in doing so veered inwards towards the running rail and baulked dislodging its rider. Jockey Davis reported that he had included a new all elastic girth in his gear when weighing out and was completely satisfied with the manner in which the gelding had been saddled and presented to race. A post race veterinary examination revealed WANA DECISION to be lame in the near fore leg. Given the circumstances of the incident trainer L Walling-Denton was advised she must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding and it must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.
Jockey W Davis sustained a fracture to his left arm and was transported to Darwin Hospital for treatment. He will require a medical clearance prior to riding again.
As a result Stewards approved the following riding change – Race 6 SCARLET ICE (F Bergstrand)
