He explained that the gelding then commenced to lay outwards considerably and placed him at a disadvantage for the remainder of the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer L Whittle was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Race 5: Lazy Bear Handicap  1600m

Following the race jockey K Cross, rider of the third placed PLANET EARTH and jockey C Spry, rider of the second placegetter LOTION both requested to view the patrol film in the straight prior to correct weight in relation to incidents involving the winner ASH GREY (J Todd). Jockey C Spry progressed no further whilst jockey K Cross lodged an objection against the winner alleging interference inside the final 100m. After considering submissions from all parties, the protest 3rd against 1st was dismissed and correct weight was given. The reasons for this decision are outlined below in the general section.

ASH GREY (J Todd) – Bumped at the 100m and again over the concluding stages.

LOTION (C Spry) – Shifted outwards under pressure in the run to the finish and bumped with another runner over the concluding stages.

PLANET EARTH (K Cross) – Shifted outwards under pressure and bumped another runner near the 100m. Carried outwards and was impeded between runners in the run to the finish.

General – On inquiry it was established that leaving the 200m PLANET EARTH shifted out and secured a run to the outside of LOTION. PLANET EARTH continued to shift outwards under pressure and initiated contact with ASH GREY near the 100m. This resulted in PLANET EARTH then being impeded for room between ASH GREY which shifted in marginally after becoming unbalanced and LOTION which shifted ground outwards under pressure in the run to the finish. Over the concluding stages ASH GREY and LOTION bumped and became unbalanced. Stewards were satisfied that no rider had ridden in a careless manner in these incidents.

Race 6: Red Centre Technology Partners Chief Ministers Cup 1600m

DOON BUGGY (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout with no cover.

MRS YARGI (K Cross) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Race 7: SDA Plumbing Handicap 1400 metres

AMERICAN ICON (W Kerford) – At the request of its rider, the gelding underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to compete. Following the unplaced performance a post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the off hind. Trainer M Nyhan was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again. When questioned post race rider advised that when leaving the enclosure his mount felt awkward in its action but worked around to the barriers in good order and he agreed with the Veterinarian’s opinion that the gelding was fit to compete.
