Race 1: Open Handicap 1100m

General: Prior to the race Stewards interviewed trainer T Halter in relation to the riding instructions she intended to give each jockey bearing in mind her stable had 3 runners in the event.  All runners were ridden accordingly.

LAGO GIRL (S. Ridler) – Lay inwards between the 250m and the 150m.

BLACK BURBERRY (W. Davis) – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Maiden Plate – 1300m

ANOTHER MAN’S LOSS (S. Ridler) – When questioned regarding his riding of the gelding in the early stages rider advised that after beginning well his mount commenced to race strongly and when he elected to ease passing the 1200m his mount over relaxed and conceded ground. He added that his mount then again raced keenly through the middle stages.

LEGAL VEINE (P. Shiers) – Raced wide throughout.

REDOUTE’S EMPIRE (R. Vigar) – Raced without cover in running.

SHE’S NICE (B. Huppatz) – Tightened for room and steadied passing the 1050m.

General: On inquiry jockey S Ridler was found guilty of a charge of careless ring under AR 137(a) with the specifics being that whilst easing his mount passing the 1100m he permitted it to shift inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in SHE’S NICE (B Huppatz) being tightened for room and steadied. Jockey S Ridler was suspended from riding in races for 1 NT meeting to expire after 4 June, 2016.

Race 3: 0 - 64 Handicap 1300m

HAMMERED ART (R. Oakford) – When questioned rider advised that his mount lay inwards when racing on the rail in the back straight and he elected to shift the gelding outwards passing the 600m to race on the outside of the field. He added that the gelding then responded to his riding but again lay inwards when placed under pressure in the straight. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer C Spry undertook to monitor the geldings’ recovery and report any adverse findings.

NEWSWORTHY (S. Ridler) – When questioned regarding the apparent improved performance trainer G Connor advised that in his opinion the gelding had not been suited to racing on the dirt surface for the first time last start in Alice Springs as it was reluctant to stretch out in the early stages despite the urgings of its rider but had made up ground in the straight. He added that he felt the gelding had taken benefit from that performance and was more suited to the increased distance of today’s event.

DE COSTA D’ORO (M. Tyndall) – Rider reported that her saddle had shifted shortly after the start and placed her at a disadvantage in running.

Race 4: TROBIS 3YO Class 4 Handicap 1200m

BATTLE OF HASTINGS (D. Pisani) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider reported that after scrambling at the start his mount lost ground and despite his efforts the gelding was off the bit through the early and middle stages but had made moderate ground in the straight.

BROOKLYN (W. Davis) – Raced wide throughout. Bumped passing the 600m.

JOLLY BOY (M. Tyndall) – Commenced awkwardly. Lay outwards under pressure over the final 150m.

POET’S CHOICE (F. Bergstrand) – Bumped and lost ground approaching the 600m and again impeded near the 400m. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

General: On inquiry it was established that near the 600m HEART OF RED (R Vigar) when negotiating the turn shifted outwards slightly resulting in POET’S CHOICE (F Bergstrand) being bumped and losing ground when racing in restricted room to the inside of BROOKLYN (W Davis). Stewards were satisfied that no rider was at fault in this incident.

At a further inquiry jockey S Ridler (AMADEO) was cautioned for angling his mount outwards to improve near the 400m resulting in POET’S CHOICE being momentarily hampered.

Race 5: 0 - 70 Handicap 1200m

General: Prior to the race Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to give each jockey bearing in mind his stable had 3 runners in the event.  All runners were ridden accordingly.

ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (W. Davis) – Slow into stride.

ZOCALOS (S. Ridler) – Bumped with another runner in the early stages of the straight.

LEAD HUSSON (M. Tyndall) – Bumped by another runner in the early stages of the straight.

General: On inquiry it was established that on straightening ZOCALAS (S Ridler) shifted outwards to improve and in doing so made contact with LEAD HUSSON on two occasions. Jockey S Ridler was advised to exercise more care when shifting ground in future.

Meeting general: Swab samples were taken from all winners and EFRON. Pre race samples were taken from ZOCALOS, GIRLS AWAY, DE COSTA D’ORO, DUST ‘N’ DIAMONDS, LEICA ROCKET, SHE’S NICE, JOLLY BOY & BATTLE OF HASTINGS.
