Stewards today conducted compliance checks and stable inspections which included examinations of all runners engaged to compete at today’s meeting.

As jockey F Bergstrand was indisposed due to a medical condition, the following replacements were approved:

·  Race 1:  More Than Frank – Paul Denton

·  Race 3:  Statue of Warriors – Wayne Davis

·  Race 4:  Kruptor – Wayne Davis

·  Race 5:  Heirdom – Barry Huppatz

·  Race 7:  I Wrote the Book – Paul Denton

Jockey F Bergstrand will be required to provide a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Race 1: Benchmark 73 - 1600m (Thirsty Camel)

THE RUFFIAN (R. Oakford) – Slow into stride. Race wide throughout.

WHISTLE STOP (S. Ridler) – Commenced awkwardly and veered inwards.

MORE THAN FRANK (P Denton) – Dipped shortly after the start.

FLYING TORMENTA (R. Vigar) – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start.

Race 2 –Trobis 3YO 0-64 Handicap 1600m (Sprout)

DYLAN JACK (R. Oakford) – Raced wide throughout.

VODIANOVA (J. Beriman) – Slow into stride.  Raced keenly in the early stages.

BACHELOR PAD (NZ) (M. Tyndall) - Commenced awkwardly.  Cast its near hind plate in running.

OUTDONE (J. Lyon) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that after leading his mount was under pressure leaving the 600m and yielded ground in the straight and on pulling up made a respiratory noise.  A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.  Trainer R Laming advised that the gelding has previously undergone corrective throat surgery and that it is intention to add a tongue tie to its gear in the future.

LEICA ROCKET (C. Spry) - Commenced awkwardly.

Race 3 – 0-76 Handicap 1300m (Toxfree)

STATUE OF WARRIORS (W Davis) – Raced wide throughout.

BEL SIR (S. Cahill) – Raced into restricted room near the 1100m and was eased by its rider.

DUGAN (NZ) (J. Beriman) – Cast its off hind plate when running.

Race 4 -0-58 Handicap 1300m (Mix 1049)

CADMAN (R. Prest) – Bumped at the start.

JESSE 'N' JAMES (J. Todd) - Commenced awkwardly.

EFRON (K. Cross) – Bumped at the start.

OLD STORMY (K. Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

CHETTALLI (S. Cahill) – Raced wide throughout.

CHICA CALIENTE (B. Huppatz) - Commenced awkwardly.

GASOLINE ALLEY (NZ) (B. Davis) – Resented the kickback was reluctant to stretch out in running.

Race 5 – 0-62 Handicap 1200m (92.3 Top Country)

Protest 2nd against 1st:  The Stewards considered a protest lodged by jockey S Cahill, rider of SENOR JUEZ, against the winner TERIO TOOL ridden by jockey B Davis alleging interference around the home turn.  In dismissing the objection, whilst Stewards were of the opinion that whilst SENOR JUEZ was hampered near the 350m by TERIO TOOL which had lay outwards at that stage, they were not satisfied that the degree of interference in this incident was greater than the margin between both horses at the finish.

TERIO TOOL (B. Davis) – Had a tendency to lay outwards from the 600m.

EMPRESS O'REILLY (NZ) (P. Denton) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that it was his intention to lead if possible but after being slow to muster early speed, his mount commenced to resent the kickback and consequently lay outwards rounding the first turn and yielded ground from there on.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

FRISKY ALBERT (R Oakford) - Raced wide throughout.

ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (P Shiers) - Raced wide throughout.

SENOR JUEZ (S Cahill) – Carried outwards and impeded near the 350m, and then angled inwards shortly after straightening to secure clear run.

Race 6 – No Claims Handicap 1100m (Ben and Sarah for Breakfast)

ACTION AGAIN (S. Cahill) – Bounded at the start and contacted the barrier partition.  Raced wide throughout.

SILENT WHISPER (K. Gladwin) – Commenced awkwardly and veered outwards.  Raced wide for the majority of the event.

Race 7 – 0-66 Handicap 1100m (Ten Darwin)

MOOT (R. Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

FURIOUS JET (B. Huppatz) – Slow into stride.

ADAGE (P. Shiers) – Raced wide throughout.

SPOILSPOT (S. Cahill) – Veered outwards at the start.

BEDISGUISED (J. Cameron) – Commenced awkwardly. Slow into stride.

ALPHABETIC (J. Todd) – Lay outwards through the middle stages.

I WROTE THE BOOK (P Denton) – Bumped at the start.

UMFAZI (K. Cross) – Raced wide throughout.

BELLE EZ (M Tyndall) – Cast its off hind plate in running. Lay inwards in the early stages in the straight.

Race 8 – 0-70 Handicap 1600m (Hot 100 Friends with Benefits)

CELEBRAKTI (B. Davis) – Raced wide throughout.

IGLES STAR (S Brown) – Bumped at the start.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore.  Trainer C Pollard was advised he must present a veterinary certificate in soundness for the gelding prior to racing.

OUR VALDIVIA(NZ) (P. Denton) – Bumped and unbalanced shortly after the start. Cast its near fore plate in running. 

ZOOM LAD (K. Gladwin) –Commenced awkwardly and bumped.  When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that his mount had not comfortably in running and when placed under pressure on the straight did not finish the race off as anticipated.  Cast its near rear plate in running. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

CALCULATION (W. Davis) – Bumped heavily at the start.

YA CRACKIN' JOKES (M. Tyndall) - Bumped at the start.

Race 9 –Trobis 3YO Plate 1600m (Hot 100 Darwin Guineas)

ABU DHABI (K. Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

BATTLE OF HASTINGS (J. Todd) - Commenced awkwardly and lost ground.

BE HOME SOON (R. Oakford) - Bumped and carried outwards at the start.  Raced wide throughout.

DUPERIE SAGA (C. Spry) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

NEWSWORTHY (S. Ridler) – Had to steady from the heels of another runner passing the 1200m and lost ground.

SALAMAAT (P. Denton) - Crowded and impeded near the 1400m. Following the race meeting trainer G Clarke advised that the gelding suffered a bout of colic upon return to the stables and will now be sent for a let up.

THE PRESTIGE (V. Arnott) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised the gelding raced ungenerously in the early stages and mis-strode contacting the running rail near the 1400m and then resented the kickback and raced ungenerously in running.  A post-race veterinary examination was conducted with no abnormalities detected.

NAMING RIGHTS (J. Lyon) - Bumped and crowded at the start.  Raced wide from the 600m.

General: THE PRESTIGE (V Arnott) commenced to race ungenerously approaching the first turn and as a result NEWSWORTHY (S Ridler) had to steady back from the heels of that runner and lost ground near the 1200m.


Swab samples were taken from all winners and ABU DHABI (R9). Pre race samples were taken from SATURDAY SORCERER, VODIANOVA, SWIMMER, MCKENNA, BEGOR I’M SURE, AFFENDI and all runners engaged in Race 9.


Race 1: Trainer R Laming was fined the sum of $100 for presenting TRANCING without its approved gear - AR14A(2).

Race 4: Jockey S Brown (BROWN COAL) was fined the sum of $100 for using his whip on one additional occasion than permitted prior to the 100m - AR137A(5)(a)(ii).


Race 4: Trainer C Pollard was reprimanded for a breach of AR175(k) for negligence for failing to notify a plating change for BROWN COAL.




Race 8: IGLES STAR – vet clearance required.
