Race 1: 0-66 Handicap 1200m

THE HUMMEL (F Bergstrand) - Commenced awkwardly and struck the barrier partition.  Rider informed that she struck her right knee on the gates in this incident,

AMBROSIA (J Lyon) - Raced wide throughout.

DANCING POETESS (R Vigar) – Raced keenly through the early and middle stages.

IT'S A PIPEDREAM (S Ridler) – Raced keenly in the early stages.

Race 2 – 0-58 Handicap 1200m

BON JET (P Denton) - Bumped on the hindquarters shortly after the start.

ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (R Oakford) – Trainer G Clarke advised of a change of riding instructions in that he would endeavour to have the gelding ridden positively from the start and race in a more prominent position than at its previous starts if possible.  This information was disseminated.

VIKING PRINCE (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that his mount commenced to lay inwards shortly after the start and continued to do so through the middle stages and subsequently yielded ground in the straight.  He further reported that when he returned to the enclosure his mount’s bridle was loose and in his opinion it may have got its tongue over the bit which may have contributed to its racing manner.  A post-race veterinary examination was conducted with no abnormalities detected.

SUPER SWIFT (M Tyndall) – Crowded between runners at the start and tightened for room shortly after.  Rider reported her mount raced ungenerously in the early stages due to the kickback and as a result became unbalanced near the 800m.  Restrained from heels and lost ground near the 700m.

VIA MAZZINI (R Vigar) - Commenced awkwardly and shifted ground outwards shortly after the start.

VILLE DE BERNE (M Milford) – Knuckled at the start.  Carried inwards near the 700m.

ALPHA MATE (D Pisani) – Carried inwards and steadied near the 700m.

General - On inquiry it was established that VIKING PRINCE (B Davis) commenced to lay inwards shortly after the start and approaching the 700m despite the efforts of its rider, shifted ground resulting in VILLE DE BERNE (M Milford) being carried inwards onto ALPHA MATE (D Pisani) which was tightened for room and steadied by its rider.  As a result, SUPER SWIFT (M Tyndall) which was following was obliged to restrain from the heels of ALPHA MATE and lost ground.  Stewards were satisfied that jockey B Davis had endeavoured to relieve the pressure to riders to his inside and as his mount was laying inwards, no further action was taken.

Race 3 – 0-62 Handicap 1100m

DASH ABOUT (M Tyndall) - Raced wide throughout.

SWINGITLIKESAYERS (M Milford) – Tightened for room near the 800m contacting the running rail and was severely checked by its rider.

POET'S CHOICE (F Bergstrand) - Raced wide throughout.

General - On inquiry jockey P Shiers (SPOILSPOT) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137a with the specifics being that near the 800m he did permit his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in SWINGITLIKESAYERS (M Milford) being tightened onto the running rail and was severely checked by its rider.  Jockey P Shiers was suspended for a period of two (2) NT meetings commencing midnight Monday, 1st August 2016, and to expire midnight Saturday, 20th August 2016.

ROADBELLS (D Pisani) - Commenced awkwardly and lost ground.  Raced wide throughout.

BACHELOR PAD (NZ) (R Vigar) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped another runner.

Race 5 - Handicap 1200m

CAPTAIN PUNCH (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that whilst the gelding has a customary inclination to lay out in running it had done so to a further degree in today’s event and when pressured mid-race, was under immediate pressure and yielded ground in the straight.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be slow to recover and displayed an increased respiratory rate.  Trainer G Clarke advised that the gelding will now be sent for a spell.

AFRICAN PULSE (M Tyndall) – Returned with a minor abrasion to the off hind coronet.

GALLANT EXPRESS (S Ridler) – Impeded from heels passing the 400m.

General - On inquiry it was established passing the 400m, ACTION AGAIN (S Cahill) shifted in marginally resulting in GALLANT EXPRESS (S Ridler) being impeded from heels.

On inquiry jockey P Denton (HANDSOME TYCOON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that near the 1100m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in GALLANT EXPRESS (S Ridler) being carried inwards onto PRINCE HARADA (P Shiers) which was tightened for room and restrained by its rider. Jockey P Denton was suspended for a period of (1) NT meeting commencing midnight Monday, 1st August 2016, and to expire midnight Saturday, 6th August 2016, and in addition was fined the sum of $1000.
