General: All runners engaged in race 6 were subject to a veterinary check on Thursday 3 May, 2018 which included an examination of treatment records and no issues were identified. As part of TRNT compliance measures Stewards also conducted stable audits, inspected all runners engaged to compete on race morning, checked treatment records and facilitated surveillance of the Heath Road stables during the morning and afternoon of race day


Stewards conducted an inspection of all jockeys gear and belongings prior to the first race with no breaches of the rules detected.

Prior to riding, all riders were also subject to breath analysis testing for the detection of alcohol.

Race 1  Peter Kittle Motor Company Handicap 1200m

GOD FORBID (P Denton) – Bumped at the start.

LUCK’S A CHANCE (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.

OUR BARTY (W Davis) – Reared at the start. Raced wide throughout.

HOWNOWBROWNCOW (K Gladwin) – Crowded between runners, bumped and steadied near the 1000m.

SENIOR COUNCIL (B Davis) – Slow into stride. Improved into restricted room leaving the 100m and as a result was impeded and unbalanced.

VIA MAZZINI (J Lyon) – Angled outwards off heels to obtain clear running near the 150m.

CAT’S ALLEY (F Bergstrand) – Bumped at the start.

DOUBLE DUX (S Fawke) Bumped at the start. Crowded near the 1000m.

Race 2: Gillen Club Handicap  1200m

THAT’S JUSTIFIED (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly.

MIGHTY MICK (P Shiers) – Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

WAS AGONA (P Denton) – Held up for clear running near passing the 400m. 

ALENTOURS  (J Todd) – Bumped at the start.

MEGA FAITH (K Cross) – Bumped at the start.

DESERT SPIRIT (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.

Race 3: Colemans Printing Cup  1100m

JAILHOUSE ROCK ($2.50) – Unsettled in the saddling enclosure and after dislodging its rider and eluding its handler cantered back into the stable area and sustained superficial abrasions after colliding with a safety fence. The gelding was declared a late scratching by order of the Stewards at 2.18pm. The following deductions were applicable to all successful bets placed prior to 2.18pm.

Trainer D Leech was advised that he must present a veterinary certificate of soundness for the gelding prior to racing again.

MAGNUS BAY (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

MARINA (S Fawke) – Resaddled behind the barriers. Inclined to lay outwards in running.

OMBROMANI (W Davis) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 4:  Ladbrokes Odd Boost Maiden Plate 1100 metres

BARKLEY (B Davis) – Raced wide from the 600m.

DOOKIE EXPRESS (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly.

FIVE FORCES (F Bergstrand) – Raced wide from the 600m.

CAN LA (P Denton) – Steadied from heels at the 900m.

CUSHIONS (B Huppatz) – Crowded for room passing the 700m.

SUNSET STAR (S Fawke) – Raced wide throughout.

TAYLASTAR (L Crow) – Raced greenly in running and lay outwards through the middle stages.

Race 5: Imparja Television Handicap  1200 metres

BELLOMO (K Gladwin) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

EINSTEIN MAGIC (J Lyon) – Commenced a little awkwardly.

ROYCEY (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping

Race 6: Holdfast Insurance Brokers Pioneer Sprint 1200 metres

Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue bearing in mind his stable has multiple runners in the event.

SIRBIBLE (F Bergstrand) – Slow into stride.

MOOT (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. Carried inwards, tightened for room and restrained leaving the 150m.

NEAT FEET (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly. Lay outwards through the middle stages and as a result impeded off heels rounding the home turn.

LE COMMANDANT (P Shiers) – Knuckled at the start.

SUPER BRYAN (B Huppatz) – Bumped at the start.

JAVA (C Spry) – Raced wide for the majority of the event and compounded in the straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

JACKANORY (J Lyon) – Fractious in the barriers prior to the start. Raced wide for the majority of the event.

LADY PHROMILY (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly.

General – On inquiry jockey J Lyon (JACKANORY) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that leaving the 150m he permitted his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently resulting in MOOT (J Todd) being carried inwards, tightened for room and restrained. Jockey J Lyon had his license to ride in races suspended for 1 NT meeting to commence after 7 May, 2018 and expire after 12 May, 2018 and in addition was fined the sum of $500.

Race 7: Landmark Handicap 1600 metres

TROOPER’S PLOY (S Fawke) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner.

ALKIRION ( L Crow) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

REGAL GROVE (J Lyon) – Knuckled at the start and bumped another runner.

BACHELOR PAD (R Vigar) – Bumped at the start.

WINGARD (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Post-race samples were taken from all winners plus JACKANORY and CANON DIABLO.
