General – From 1 August, 2016: Race 9 – Darwin Cup 2000m

Following the poor performance of SATURDAY SORCERER, trainer J Manning reported that a lung wash performed on the gelding revealed no abnormalities. Trainer was advised that given the circumstances of the performance the gelding would be required to barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Race 1: BM54 Handicap 1300m

THREE GORGES (NZ) (K Gladwin) – Returned with an abrasion to the near stifle.

GOLDCLIP (R Vigar) – Raced wide from the 600m.

General – Race 1 - Stewards permitted the riding replacement of M Tyndall as the rider of ALPHA MATE, replacing  B Davis.

Race 2 - 0 - 58 Handicap 1100m

JOLLY BOY (M Tyndall) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

INFERENTIAL (C Spry) – Dwelt at the start and lost ground.  The mare returned having bled from the off nostril.  Trainer C Spry was advised of the disabilities placed on the gelding under AR53A.  Trainer C Spry advised the mare will be retired.

TALLAROOK (D Pisani) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Race 3 - 0 - 70 Handicap 1100m

DUGAN (NZ) (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly.  When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that the gelding failed to stretch out in running and felt amiss in its action.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be lame in the near fore leg.  Trainer R Laming was advised that a veterinary certificate of soundness must be presented for the gelding prior to racing again.

Race 4 - 0 - 64 Handicap Division 1 1600m

QUANTUM DOT (B Davis) – Lay outwards under pressure in the straight.

OUR SWAGMAN (K Cross) – Rider reported that her saddle shifted forward near the 1400m and placed her at a disadvantage in running.

VODIANOVA (R Vigar) – Compounded from the 600m.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be slow to recover with an elevated heart rate.

BEGOR I'M SURE (M Tyndall) – Fractious prior to the start.  Commenced awkwardly and lost ground.

AFFENDI (C Spry) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5 - Handicap 1600m

TRANCING (R Vigar) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, the rider advised that his mount was not suited to the fast pace of the race and in his opinion failed to handle the track surface.  A post race veterinary examination revealed the mare to be mildly lame in the off hind leg.

Race 6 - 0 - 64 Handicap Division 2 1600m

THING OF NOTHING (IRE) (C Spry) – Raced keenly for some distance leaving the 1400m after being crossed by another runner.

HONG KONG EMPIRE (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

OUR ORACLE (K Cross) – Impeded between runners near the 200m.


Swab samples were taken from all winners.








Race 2 – INFERENTIAL – bled one nostril (must gallop in the presence of the Stewards).
