Race 1: 0 - 70 Handicap 1600m

KING KEV (C Spry) – Raced wide throughout.  Trainer/jockey Mr C Spry advised that the gelding was under pressure from the 800 metres and he intended to discuss the gelding’s future intentions with connections and advise Stewards accordingly. 

FRENCH TUSSON (W Davis) – Raced keenly through the middle stages due to the moderate pace.  Rider reported that the handle of his whip became entangled in his reins and as a result he had difficulty with drawing his whip between the 225 and 150 metres.

Race 2: Maiden Plate 1000m

MAKOWSKY (B Huppatz) – Bounded at the start. 

MEET MY BRO (R Rhodes) – Bumped at the start. 

SUNSET STRIP (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

Race 3: BMNT 71 Handicap 1200m

General: Prior to the race Stewards interviewed trainer Mr P Cole in relation to the riding instructions he intended to give each jockey bearing in mind his stable had four runners in the event.  All runners were ridden accordingly. 

MADIBA’S VISION (W Davis) – Bounded at the start.

ROEBUCK (R Rhodes) – Commenced awkwardly.  Raced wide through out. 

MISS KITTY (S Ridler) – Rider reported that is mount felt amiss in its action.  A post race veterinary inspection revealed the mare to be lame in the off fore leg.  Trainer Mr P Cole was advised that he must present a veterinary certificate of soundness for the mare prior to racing again.

Race 4: Benchmark 54 Handicap (Div 1) 1200m

ON YOUR WAY (V Arnott) – Commenced awkwardly.  Tightened for room and checked at the 1050 metres. 

STAY TIL DAWN (B Davis) – Carried inwards and impleaded at the 1050 metres.

SWICK SASSO (R Oakford) – Raced wide throughout.

MITFORD GIRL (R Rhodes) – Slow into stride.

ROYALS (B Huppatz) –When attempting to improve into a marginal run near the 200m contacted the rail and was impeded and was then taken outwards across heels to improve.

General: On inquiry jockey C Spry (NERVOUS) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) with the specifics being that whilst riding his mount along he permitted the gelding to shift inwards when insufficiently clear  near the 1050m resulting in STAY TIL DAWN (B Davis) being impeded and carried inwards causing ON YOUR WAY (V Arnott) to be tightened for room and checked by its rider. Jockey C Spry was suspended from riding in races for a period of 1 NT meeting and may resume riding after 13th February, 2016. In considering penalty Stewards took into account his very good race riding record.

Race 5: Benchmark 54 Handicap (Div 2) 1200m

DON ROBERTO (B Davis) – On arrival at the barriers the gelding underwent a veterinary inspection, at the request of the Stewards, and was cleared to compete. 

ALL DUE RESPECT (R Rhodes) – Slow into stride. 

Race 6: 0 - 64 Handicap 1300m

FRISKY ALBERT (R Oakford) – Bumped and hampered leaving the 100m.

IT’S A PIPEDREAM (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.  Raced wide through out.  Bled from both nostrils following the event. Trainer Mr D Leech was advised that the gelding would now suffer the disabilities of AR53A.

THE KUNUNURRA KID (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.

TIPSY ON RED (W Davis) – Shifted out to improve at the 100 metres and bumped with another runner.  Jockey W Davis was cautioned for shifting outwards when not fully clear of other runners.

EVENING LADIES (F Bergstrand) – Bumped at the start.

ZIGGLER (C Spry) – Bumped at the start. 


Swab samples were taken from all winners and TODABAR (R6). Pre race samples were taken from WHERE’S PINO, CASINO EXIT, MADIBA’S VISION, MITFORD GIRL, CRACKED, IT’S A PIPEDREAM.
