General: Prior to the race Stewards interviewed trainer C Pollard in relation to the riding instructions he intended to give each jockey bearing in mind his stable had 3 runners in the event. All runners were ridden accordingly.

GOLD BUNDLE (M Tyndall) – Knuckled at the start. Returned with a laceration to the near hind hoof.
ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (R Oakford) – When questioned regarding today’s performance rider advised that whilst the gelding was stepping up in class it had not been suited when pressured for the lead. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

General: Visiting TRSA apprentice jockey Jai Mamat appeared before Stewards in the company of trainer D Leech in relation to his riding of ANOTHER MAN’S GAIN over the concluding stages of the event. He was subsequently found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride the gelding out to the end of the race, in particular the final 2 strides. Apprentice J Mamat was fined the sum of $250. In arriving at this penalty Stewards were mindful of his relative inexperience and that this was his first ride at the track. Stewards also took into account that in their opinion, whilst finishing second (beaten a long head) his actions had not cost his mount the opportunity to win the race.
Apprentice J Mamat was reprimanded for negligence in failing to weigh in immediately following the race.
Race 3 – Maiden Plate 1100m
CASINO JAKE (J Mamat) – Slow into stride. Rider reported his mount was off the bit in running and lay outwards under pressure in the straight.

GROUP HUG (R Oakford) – Lunged forward and contacted the gates at the start.

BRIMARVI CUGAT (M Tyndall) – Dwelt at the start and lost several lengths.
General: Prior to declaring correct weight, Stewards viewed the patrol films of the start and interviewed all riders and the Starter following concerns expressed that there may have been a false start. It was established that GROUP HUG had lunged forward and sprung the gates on its barrier simultaneously as the start was being effected. Jockey R Oakford immediately took hold of his mount and once satisfied that the false start signal had not been activated he commenced to ride his mount along. Stewards were therefore satisfied, in the circumstances, that no unfair advantage had been gained by GROUP HUG and furthermore that no other runner had been disadvantaged and correct weight was semaphored.
