General -From Saturday, 2nd July 2016, Race 2 “UCart Handicap” - 1200m

Trainer G Clarke subsequently reported that DYLAN JACK which performed below expectations underwent a lung wash which revealed a lower respiratory infection and the gelding is receiving treatment for this condition.

General- Stewards today conducted compliance checks and stable inspections which included examinations of all runners engaged to compete at today’s meeting.

Race 1: Riverina Angus Steaks 0-66 Handicap 1300m

MAVERICKS (C Spry) – Knuckled at the start.  Carried inwards, tightened for room and restrained by its rider near 950m.

FRENCH TUSSON (W Davis) – Slow into stride.  Raced in restricted room when attempting to improve from the 800m until near the 550m and was steadied from heels.

HEY CHARLIE (J Lyon) – Raced wide throughout.

General: Jockey S Cahill was reprimanded under AR120(b) for being overweight and was subsequently replaced as the rider of BENTLEY TYCOON by D Pisani.

On inquiry Jockey D Pisani (BENTLEY TYCOON) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR137a, in that near the 950m he angled his mount inwards when insufficiently clear resulting in MAVERICKS (C Spry) being carried inwards, tightened for room and restrained by its rider. Jockey D Pisani had his licence to ride in races suspended for a period of two NT meetings to commence midnight, 9th July 2016 and to expire after midnight, Saturday, 16th July 2016.

Race 2 – NT News Maiden Plate 1200m

MAGIC GREG (R Oakford) – Had a tendency to lay inwards in the straight.

MOUSSAMBANI (J Lyon) – Raced wide throughout.

MY COLLEAGUE (S Ridler) – Rider reported that his mount commenced to lay inwards when tested with the whip passing the 150m and as a result he rode his mount in a hands and heels manner over the concluding stages.

Race 3 – Merit Partners 0-76 Handicap 1200m

PERFECT PAUSE (K Gladwin) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance, rider advised that the mare normally leads and when unable to today had not been suited by the fast pace set by the leader and consequently was under pressure prior to straightening.  A post-race vet examination revealed no abnormalities.

SET FOR A BUNDLE (S Brown) – Raced wide throughout.

PENDLES (S Cahill) – Commenced awkwardly.  Cast its near fore plate in running.

Race 4 – Ramada Zen Apartments 0-58 Handicap 1000m

ALTO LAGO (K Gladwin) - Commenced awkwardly.

VIKING PRINCE (P Shiers) – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn.

HARREBS TIME (R Oakford) – When questioned rider reported that his mount failed to negotiate the first turn and as a result shift outwards making contact with another runner and becoming unbalanced.  A post-race vet examination revealed the gelding to have sustained lacerations to the near hind leg.

WANA DECISION (P Denton) – Slow into stride.

SPARKLING VIXEN (R Vigar) – Bumped by another runner near the 600m and raced wide from thereon.

BRANDY NAN (B Huppatz) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 5 – Brittain Racing Handicap 0-58 1000m

THREE GORGES (NZ) (J Lyon) – Raced ungenerously when negotiating the first turn and as a result lost ground.

MACON COUNTY (V Arnott) – Bumped shortly after the start.

SWINGITLIKESAYERS (S Cahill) - Bumped shortly after the start.

PERESSINI (P Denton) – Bounded at the start.  Lay outwards rounding the first turn and raced ungenerously for some distance.

OH SO JAZZY (B Huppatz) – Bounded at the start and lost ground.  Restrained outwards from heels rounding the first turn.

DILUVIUM (S Ridler) – Raced wide throughout.  Returned from the race having bled from both nostrils.  Trainer T Halter was advised of the disabilities placed on the mare under AR53A.

Race 6 – Isuzu Air Power Trobis 3YO Class 3 Handicap 1000m

ROUGHLY (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly and veered outwards.  Raced wide throughout.

SHEZA DARK HORSE (V Arnott) – Bounded at the start and then contacted another runner.

ALPHA MINT (R Vigar) - Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

MISTER BLEVAL (W Davis) – Bumped at the start and then dipped. Shifted ground inwards in the straight and as a consequence was impeded from heels passing the 100m.

MI BEL FIO (M Tyndall) – Bumped at the start.

Race 7 – Asian United Food Service Chief Ministers Cup 1600m

LIGHTINTHENITE (P Shiers) – Crowded and bumped near the 150m.

KINGDOMS (NZ) (S Cahill) – Trainer M Hickmott reported that on return to the stables the gelding bled from both nostrils and in addition was lame in the near fore.  Mr Hickmott was advised of the disabilities placed on the gelding under AR53A.

BIG MAN (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that whilst his mount had travelled comfortably in running the gelding had failed to finish the race off as anticipated. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer G Clarke’s representative subsequently advised that the gelding had recovered well but would not race for at least 2 weeks.

PRETTY BLONDE (J Lyon) – Knuckled at the start.

WHISTLE STOP (S Ridler) – Raced wide from the 600m. Commenced to shift inwards shortly after straightening eventually hampering another runner near the 150m. 

General: On inquiry it was established that shortly after straightening WHISTLE STOP (S Ridler) commenced to shift inwards several horses when being ridden along which resulted in LITEINTHENITE (P Shiers) being crowded and impeded leaving the 200m.  In considering this incident Stewards were of the opinion that the level of interference was minimal but jockey S Ridler was reprimanded for careless riding under AR137(a).

Race 8 – FRM Refrigeration 0-62 Handicap 1600m

HAMMERED ART (K Gladwin) – Rolled inwards at the 200m.

CHOICE APPROACH (R Oakford) - Rolled inwards at the 200m to avoid the heels of another runner.

EFRON (B Davis) – When questioned regarding the poor performance rider advised that the gelding failed to stretch out in running and felt uncomfortable in its action.  A post-race vet examination failed to reveal any abnormalities. Trainer S Clarke subsequently reported that the gelding had returned to his stables with a swollen eye, he surmised from being struck by the dirt kickback, and is receiving treatment.

CHETTALLI (S Ridler) – Got its head in the air when over-racing in the early and middle stages.

GIRL HAPPY (R Vigar) – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

General: Stewards inquired into an incident rounding the home turn whereby W Davis (CALCULATION) appeared to have his left elbow extended when racing in close proximity of CHETTALLI (S Ridler). Jockey W Davis explained that leaving the 400m he was endeavouring to hold his racing line when his mount was laying outwards slightly and in doing so had extended his left elbow. It was established that CHETALLI then improved to the inside of CALCULATION rounding the home turn and shifted out marginally resulting in contact between both runners. Whilst Stewards were satisfied that jockey W Davis had not contacted any other rider or horse with his elbow during this section of the race he was advised to modify his riding action in similar circumstances.


Post race swab samples were taken from all winners and MONTALTO & EFRON. Pre race samples were taken from GOLD ZAC, CHOICE APPROACH, PHEONIX ARIZONA, GIRL HAPPY, BESTIHAVEEVERHAD, PENDLES and all runners engaged in Race 7.


Race 3 Trainer N Dyer – fined $20 for use of the club colours on PENDLES - NT121.

Race 5 Jockey M Tyndall (OUR SWAGMAN) - fined $50 for negligence in riding in the incorrect racing colours - AR175(k).


Race 1 - Trainer Gardner was reprimanded for negligence for failing to notify a plating change for GOLD ZAC - AR175(k)

Race 1 - Jockey S Cahill was reprimanded for being overweight and was subsequently replaced as the rider of BENTLEY TYCOON by D Pisani - AR120(b)

Race 7 – Jockey S Ridler was reprimanded for careless riding – AR137(a)


Race 1 – Jockey D Pisani was suspended for 2 NT meetings for careless riding – AR137(a)
