Race 1 Bosch Home Appliances Handicap 1200 metres
EIGHTEEN BOMBERS (W Kerford) – When questioned regarding the performance, rider advised his mount raced in a flat manner and trainer reported the gelding would now be sent for a spell.
LADY PHROMILY (K Brooks) – Commenced awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide throughout.
LUCERNE VALE (J Bates) – Bumped at the start.
STAR OF HARKAWAY (J Mamat) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Tightened for room and restrained near the 100m.
DANCING POETESS (F Bergstrand) – Held up for a clear run from on straightening until approaching the 100m. Carried inwards and impeded near the 50m.
General – On inquiry it was established that after being blocked for running in the straight DANCING POETESS (F Bergstrand) secured a run approaching the 100m but shortly after received minor pressure and shifted in and away from LUCERNE VALE (J Bates) resulting in STAR OF HARKAWAY (J Mamat) being tightened for room and restrained. Stewards were satisfied that no rider had ridden carelessly in this incident and therefore no further action was taken.
Race 2: Kelvinator Air-Conditioning Maiden Plate 1200 metres
OSCAR’S FURY (J Mamat) – Bumped at the start. Mistrode and became unbalanced near the 900m.
SIMON THE LIKEABLE (K Brooks) – Commenced awkwardly. Hung inwards during the event and bumped another runner at the 700m. Continued to hang inwards considerably in the straight placing its rider at a disadvantage in riding her mount out to the finish of the race. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have a large ulcerated legion on the off cheek.
MISSLED (R Vigar) – Commenced a little awkward.SCANDLOUS (W Kerford) – Slow into stride and bumped at the start.
STRYKER’S FLAME (S Altieri) – Trainer G Connor advised that he would give instructions for the mare to be ridden conservatively out of the barriers and further back than at its most recent starts.
General - At a subsequent inquiry into the presentation of SIMON THE LIKEABLE trainer L Lefoe acknowledged that she was aware that the gelding had been diagnosed with a cancerous legion and she had sought veterinary treatment which had initially responded but then the condition returned and spread. The on course veterinarian expressed the opinion that there was a high probability that this condition had affected the gelding’s performance in today’s event as well as potentially compromising its welfare. Mrs Lefoe was found guilty of a charge under AR140(a)(ii)(a) for failing to report this condition to the Stewards and she was fined the sum of $2000. In assessing penalty Stewards took into account the serious nature of the charge, her personal circumstances and her good disciplinary record. Mrs Lefoe was notified of her right of appeal.
Stewards further ordered that a full veterinary
clearance must be presented for SIMON THE LIKEABLE prior to racing or trialling
Race 3: Fisher & Paykel Refrigeration Handicap 1100 metres
Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer L Gillett in regards to the riding instructions she indented to give each rider bearing in mind she had 3 runners.
MITIGATE (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.
BONSAI BOY (F Bergstrand) – Knuckled at the start and bumped.
HEART OF RED (K Brooks) – Raced wide throughout.
VAN PERSIE (M Tyndall) – Knuckled on jumping.
WILD RUN (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Held up for clear running passing the 200m and again impeded over the concluding stages.
BURGUNDY LASS (D Pisani) – Bumped at the start.
SEAFTA (B Davis) – Bounded out of the barriers.
GAMORA (J Bates) – Over
raced in the early stages and wide throughout. Rider was reminded of his
obligations to test his mounts fully to the end of the race.
Race 4: Fujitsu Air Conditioning Handicap 1600 metres
Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer L Lefoe in regards to the riding instructions she intended to give each rider bearing in mind she had 3 runners.
PERESSINI (K Gladwin) – Crowded at the start.
PERFECT PARAGON (J Mamat) - Steadied back in the early stages to avoid the kickback and then raced wider on the track from leaving the 1200m.
GRAB FOR POWER (B Davis) – Blocked for clear running in the straight.
MADIBA’S VISION (K Brooks) – Bumped at the start.
HILLBILLY RICH (F Bergstrand) – Lay outwards from the 250m.
CASINO EXIT (M Tyndall) – Slow into stride.
Race 5: Harvey Norman Alice Springs Commercial Handicap 1400 metres
Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer L Gillett in regards to the riding instructions she intended to give each rider bearing in mind she had 3 runners.
EMPIRE (J Bates) – Dipped slightly on jumping and bumped.
LOOKING (W Kerford) – Bumped at the start.
SIMBELATION (M Tyndall) – Slow into stride.
THEATREMAN (T Gillett) – Raced wide throughout.
BEST A MAN CAN GET (R Vigar) – Knuckled on jumping.
SHIVORO (S Altieri) – Tightened for room and restrained when under pressure leaving the 400m.
SWIMMER (C Spry) – Bumped at the start.
General – On inquiry it was established that leaving the 400m SHIVORO (S
Altieri) was tightened for room and restrained when racing between MR GOOD
LOOKING (W Kerford) which shifted out slightly when improving and RIBERA DEL
DUERO (K Brooks) which also shifted in marginally when being ridden along.
Stewards were satisfied that no jockey had ridden carelessly in this incident
and no further action was taken.
Post-race samples were taken from all winners.
