Race 2: 9th April The Gem Cave Ladies Day Luncheon Handicap 1200 metres

PRANFARE (R Vigar) – Commenced awkwardly.

REMEMBER RAZOR (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly.

General: Stewards questioned apprentice R Vigar (PRANFARE) in regards to his ride in this event. R Vigar advised that his instructions were to ride forward and that he did not want to get caught in any kickback as his mount would resent it. Stewards were of the view that R Vigar had secured a good position at the 800m sitting just off the pace and out of the kickback. R Vigar then elected to keep letting his mount roll forward to challenge for the lead at the 600m which in the view of the Stewards may have been detrimental to the chances of that filly finishing closer. R Vigar was advised that in future he must use more initiative once securing a position in a race and not to leave his rides open for question.

Race 3: 16th April McDonalds Young Guns Day Handicap 1100 metres

MITIGATE (S Westover) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

AUSBRED CUTIE (T Gillett) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Race 4: Alice in the Territory Handicap 1100 metres

ZIZZELDO (N Rose) – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of the gelding, rider explained that after commencing a little slow into stride and then caught back behind runners, he resented the kickback and failed to stride out until straightening up when he made up some ground.

SHORT SHIFT (T Gillett) – Shifted in abruptly shortly after jumping.

General: Correct weight for this event was delayed when S Westover (AURUMCERT) requested to view the Stewards footage of the final 200m. After viewing the footage correct weight was declared.

Race 5: Colemans Printing Handicap 1000 metres

WEEKENDINALICE (K Gladwin) – Inclined to roll out under pressure over the final 100m.

EMPRESS O’REILLY (R Vigar) – Raced wide rounding the home turn and down the length of the straight.

ESTAMBUL THIRTEEN (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly when attempting to get its head down just as gates were effected. Trainer Mr W Savage was advised that as the gelding had previously displayed a tendency to become fractious in the barriers, a warning had now been placed on that gelding and that a similar occurrence may result in some action being taken.

BLAME IT ON RIO (W Kerford) – Momentarily tightened between runners shortly after jumping.

Race 6: ST Patricks Cup 1600 metres

GALA ARCH (K Gladwin) – Fractious in the barriers.

R Vigar was subsequently found guilty of a charge under AR137A5(a)(i)(ii) in that he used his whip on 8 extra occasions with 7 of those consecutively prior to the 100m.

Apprentice R Vigar had his licence to ride in races suspended to expire midnight 19th March (1NT meeting). R Vigar was further fined the sum of $350. Stewards when considering penalty took into consideration his poor record in relation to the whip with his last breach as recently as last week when Stewards advised him that he was now on notice that another breach may attract a higher penalty.
