Race 1 Camel Gallop Handicap 1200 metres

Stewards interviewed trainer L Whittle in regards to the riding instructions she intended to give each jockey as her stable had multiple runners in the event.

ENGINE FIFTY FIVE (J Todd) – Commenced slow into stride.

RHYTHM OF CUBA (L Crow) – Raced wide into the home straight.

General: Stewards sought an explanation from jockey L Miller (LIBERTY HILL) with concerns to his ride from the 400m onwards when he permitted his mount to shift from the inside rail to a point where he was within close proximity of the outside fence passing the winning post. Stewards were of the opinion that there was clear running for him to improve his mounts position inside other runners at the top of the straight and that it was reasonable and permissible for him to have done so. Jockey L Miller could offer no satisfactory reason for allowing his mount to shift outwards at this stage of the event and subsequently agreed with the observations of the Stewards. He was admonished and placed on notice that he must ride in a competent manner which is not open for question.
