Race 1 Karen Heath Christmas Cheer Handicap 1200 metres
HEART OF RED (W Kerford) – Bumped with a runner at the 100m.
BURGUNDY LASS (L Crow) – Commenced slow into stride.
ECOLANE (J Lamat) – Layed inwards at the 100m bumping with a runner.
Race 2: Sue Stoddard Shining Star Handicap 1200 metres
MANHATTAN PRINCE (K Brooks) – Lay inwards under pressure over the final 150m.
GAMORA (Z Gibbs) – Slow into stride and steadied off heels at the 800m and again at the 400m.
FULL MARKS (V Arnott) – Raced wide and without cover in running.
LOGAN’S RUN (M Kai) – Steadied off heels at the 650m.
RAZOR BURN (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly.
Race 3: Marg Stayer Tinsel Dazzler Handicap 1100 metres
GUN RULE (L Crow) – As the gates opened stood flat-footed and lost some ground.
MITOCHONDRIA (J Mamat) – Attempted to buck on route to the barriers. A subsequent veterinary examination at the barriers revealed no apparent abnormalities and was cleared to compete. Shifted outwards under pressure at the 150m.
STRUTTIN MY STUFF (Z Gibbs) – Inclined to over-race in the middle stages having to steady off heels.
SHOGUN STAR (K Brooks) – Slow into stride.
LUNAR LUCK (S Alam) – Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn.
MISHANI TRADER (M Kai) – Inclined to lay outwards rounding the home turn.
Race 4: Karlee Button Stocking Stuffer Handicap Classic 1600 metres
Prior to this race, Stewards interviewed trainer M Nyhan in regards to the riding instructions he intended to give each rider bearing in mind he had 3 runners.
PERESSINI (L Crow) – Steadied off heels racing into the first turn.
BIANCONI’S SON (J Mamat) – Began to yield ground from the 600m and finishing well back. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities.
General: Stewards interviewed trainer E Wehr in regards to the poor performance of BIANCONI’S SON today and it’s recent below standard form. Miss Wehr advised that she was of the opinion that the gelding could be better suited racing over a decreased distance and it is her intention to send the gelding for a spell. She intends to nominate the gelding to compete over sprint distances in future. Stewards accepted Miss Wehr’s explanation but advised that the gelding will be monitored closely on returning to racing in regards to its competitiveness and associated welfare.
Race 5: Mad Harrys Christmas Cup Handicap 1400 metres
MUSCAT (S Alam) – Inclined to lay outwards from the 600m until entering the top of the straight.
General: Stewards questioned V Arnott (DANCING POETESS) and apprentice L Crow (BEL’S LAD) in regards to their riding instructions after both runners had raced clear of the field by the 1200m. L Crow explained that she was instructed to lead if possible and that her mount felt comfortable in running and that the pace was suiting her mount. V Arnott advised that she was instructed to be up on the pace and was unaware that both runners had drew away that far from the field. Whilst Stewards expressed concerns at seeing runners taking each other on early in middle distance races, they accepted both riders explanation and took no further action.
Post-race samples were taken from all winners.
