Following the unplaced performance of  SATURDAY SORCERER trainer N Moody reported that the analysis of blood samples taken revealed the gelding to be suffering from stomach ulcers which has required subsequent treatment

BEST A MAN CAN GET (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout.

UNCOVERED WEALTH (B Davis) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped with another runner.

WISENHEIMER (S McGovern) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

FLYING FAY (K Connor) – Commenced awkwardly.


Race 2: North Concrete Handicap 1200 metres

SHORT SHIFT (R Prest) – Anticipated the start by jumping forward in the barriers and then as start was effected lost considerable ground. Raced wide throughout.

GRANCABRIO (R Vigar) – Commenced awkward, inconvenienced for a run from the 400m to the 220m having to steady off heels on several occasions.

ZANDERCAN (L Crow) – Over raced in the early and middle stages of the event and inclined to roll in under pressure down the length of the straight causing its rider to stop riding and straighten.

General: Correct weight for this event was delayed as Stewards viewed the head on footage to the start in relation to SHORT SHIFT missing the start.


Race 3: Wanna Lift? Crane Hire Handicap 1100 metres

AURUMCERT (K Connor) – Slow into stride bumping with another runner.

LUCERN VALE (D Pisani) – Raced wide throughout. After a disappointing performance, a veterinary examination of the gelding revealed no apparent abnormalities.

PERFECT PAUSE (R Vigar) - Commenced a little awkward bumping with another runner. Steadied off heels approaching the 800m.

Race 4: Exact Homes Handicap 1100 metres

NEWSWORTHY (K Connor) – Slow into stride.

PAROUSIA (L Crow) – Raced wide throughout. After a disappointing performance a veterinary examination of the mare revealed no apparent abnormalities.

ROYAL CHOICE (B Davis) – Bumped with runner at the 400m becoming unbalanced and mistrode on several occasions.

BLAME IT ON RIO (S McGovern) – Bumped with runner on several occasions on jumping becoming momentarily unbalanced. Bumped with runner at the 400m.

General: Correct weight for this event was delayed when the rider of the fourth placegetter (ROYAL CHOICE) requested to see the footage of the 400m. After viewing the footage correct weight was declared.

Race 5: Thank You Des Friedrich Handicap 1400 metres

HONG KONG EMPIRE (J Cameron) – Bumped with runner on jumping. Inconvenienced for clear running from the 500m to the top of the straight having to be restrained off heels.

KAAPSTROEM (K Connor) – Yielded ground from the 350m pulling up quickly. A subsequent veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Trainer subsequently advised that the filly would now be retired from racing.

SNUFFS THE BATTLE (B Davis) – Bumped with runner on jumping.

BARKLEY (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout.

Post-race samples were taken from all winners.
