Race 1 2017 James Boag’s Melbourne Cup Day 7th November Handicap 1200 metres

CHIMA (L Crow) – Knuckled slightly on jumping and bumped with another runner.

HEART OF RED (T Gillett) – Commenced a little awkwardly.

THAT’S JUSTIFIED (W Kerford) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

BONSAI BOY (F Bergstrand) – Commenced to hang outwards from the 650m placing its rider at a disadvantage in controlling the gelding heading into the first turn and for the remainder of the event. Whilst trainer Mr Lamprecht reported to Stewards that the gelding will now be sent for a spell, he was advised that the gelding would need to trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to again starting in a race. A post –race examination of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

MAN WITH A PLAN (K Cross) – Bumped with another runner on jumping after being a little slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Ladbrokes Trobis Maiden Plate 1100 metres

J Lyon replaced L Miller as the rider of FLAD FUORI as he was unable to make the allotted weight.

CAPTAIN OASIS (Z Gibbs) – Raced wide entering the home turn.

DESTINY OF STEEL (K Cross) – Slow into stride.

RHYTHMICAL (F Bergstrand) – Inclined to lay outwards at the 200m under pressure.

SHANARICH (R Hancock) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

FLAD FUORI (J Lyon) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Lost some ground at the 800m whilst being steadied.

Race 3: Crowne Plaza Alice Springs Handicap 1000 metres

MITOCHONDRA (J Lyon) – Raced wide throughout.

MITIGATE (W Kerford) – Commenced a little awkwardly.

WHAT A STRYKER (Z Gibbs) – Commenced awkwardly getting its head up and attempted to run off the track becoming uncontrollable for its rider and as a result took no competitive part of the race. When questioned trainer L Whittle had no explanation as to the mare’s behaviour and explained that it was a new horse to her stable and there had been nothing to suggest the mare would behave in an unruly manner. Stewards advised that prior to that mare again starting in a race, it must trial satisfactorily with the emphasis on its behaviour throughout the trial as it was also unruly in the mounting yard and at the barriers.

DESTINY’S LASS (L Miller) – Slow into stride and raced wide throughout.

FULL MARKS (F Bergstrand) – Commenced a little awkwardly.

BUSH CHOOK (K Cross) – After a poor performance, trainer advised that the gelding would now be retired.

General: On inquiry, R Vigar pleaded guilty to a charge under AR137A(5)(a)(i)&(ii) in that he used his whip on 5 additional and 7 being consecutive occasions prior to the 100m. R Vigar had his licence to ride in races suspended for 1NT meeting to expire after midnight 7th November. In considering penalty, Stewards took into consideration that R Vigar had twice breached the whip rules at the race meeting prior to today in Darwin and was duly placed on notice that day that a repeat breach may result in a suspension.

Race 4: XXXX Gold Handicap 1000 metres

TEQUILA RED (W Kerford) – Slow into stride.

DU BOIS (B Huppatz) – Raced wide throughout.

HOT DEMAND (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Shifted outwards at the 400m and again shifted outwards off heels at the 100m to obtain clear running.

ASH GREY (W Kerford) – Slow into stride.

CONTACT FRONT (L Crow) – Raced wide from the 800m.

RUBY FOR HENRY (R Vigar) – Ridden hard early to secure a forward position.
