Stewards today concluded the hearing into the charge issued to Licensed jockey Mr C Spry on 2 July 2010 following an inquiry into the running of Activation in the NT TAB ROANT Gold Cup (Div 1) run at Fannie Bay on Saturday 26th June 2010.
Mr C Spry rider of Activation was charged under AR135(b), the details being that from near the 350 metres to approximately the 150 metres he failed to ride his mount with sufficient endeavor or vigor so as to ensure that his mount was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible place in the field.
Stewards acceded to a request from C Spry to have legal representation and he was duly represented by Mr B Piper.
Further evidence was today taken from Mr C Spry and submissions were put on his behalf by Mr Piper. Written evidence was also tendered from Mr K Ring..
Stewards found C Spry guilty of the charge and suspended his permit to ride in races for a period of 2 months. On request from C Spry stewards acting under Local Rule NT 17 deferred the commencement of the penalty until midnight on 14th July to allow C Spry to fulfill his engagements on the 14th July at Fannie Bay.
