Race 4 – Jockey S Fawke was fined the sum of $200 for a breach of AR137A(3) for using
his whip in an improper manner in the preliminary when riding MAN WITH A PLAN.
Race 5 – Stewards questioned jockey J Lyon in relation to his riding of ANOTHER MAN’S GAIN in the home straight and evidence was also taken from trainer D Leech. No evidence could be taken from J Lyon on the day as had left the racecourse for the airport immediately following the race. J Lyon explained that his mount had faltered in its action near the 200m and he was concerned that there may be something amiss with the gelding and he therefore stopped riding his mount from thereon. D Leech reported that the gelding had recovered without incident but had pulled up with bruised front heels in the days following the race. Stewards accepted this explanation but jockey J Lyon subsequently pleaded guilty to a breach of AR140(b) and was fined $300 for failing to report this incident to the Stewards as soon as practicable following the event. Trainer D Leech was advised that he is required to present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
