ABLE KEN (J Lyon) – Commenced awkwardly.
Following this race the jockeys who rode expressed concerns to the Stewards that the track surface was inconsistent in some sections. The jockeys agreed to proceed with running the second event to further evaluate the track surface. The track was reclassified to Slow 5.
Race 2: MAIDEN 1200m
MOUSSAMBANI (M Tyndall) – Lay inwards near the 600m. Raced wide on straightening and lay inwards under pressure in the straight.
AMIGO MIO (F Bergstrand) – Hampered from the heels of another runner near the 600m.
WINGED HUSSAR (J Lyon) – Restrained from heels and lost ground at the 600m.
DAYAN (C Spry) – Commenced awkwardly.
EFFECTUATE (R Vigar) – Raced in restricted room near the 600m turn and had to be checked losing ground. A post race veterinary examination revealed the filly to be mildly lame in the near fore.
FRITZ N SAUCE (K Cross) – Raced wide throughout.
A number of jockeys expressed further concerns regarding the condition of the track in the back straight. TRNT Stewards, joined a delegation of senior riders, inspected the areas of concern at 1000m, 700m and 400m points. It was evident that these areas had cut up significantly leaving deep divots which had created an inconsistent surface.
The Stewards agreed with the riders’ assessment of these areas and given the deterioration of the surface it had created inconsistent sections of the course proper and posed a safety concern. The Stewards therefore abandoned the remainder of the programme.
The reasons for the track surface deteriorating in the manner it did will be subject of an investigation by TRNT in conjunction with the Adelaide River Show Society committee.
Post race samples were taken from both winners.
No fines, reprimands/warnings, suspensions or embargos resulted from the meeting
