TRNT lifts minimum riding weights during the coronavirus situation

The minimum riding weight for all meetings in the Northern Territory will be raised to 56kg during the coronavirus pandemic.

In making this decision the TRNT Board considered a submission from the NTJA and the similar determinations made in Victoria and NSW. The Board are mindful that this decision is for the health benefit of jockeys and to improve their resistance to getting sick. This is a temporary measure that will commence from 23 March, 2020 and remain in place until the coronavirus situation changes.

As a result of this decision the Board has endorsed amendments to NT Local Rules 105, 106 & 107 pertaining to the minimum handicap weights and set weight maiden scale. The TRNT overweight policy 028 has also been revised to incorporate the increased minimum riding weight. These revised documents are available on the TRNT website.
