General - Prior to acceptances for this meeting, Stewards became aware that trainer M Nyhan was overseas and had been since 7 January, 2019. As he could not be contacted and after investigating his stable complex and interviewing a number of licenced persons, Stewards were not satisfied that an appropriate trainer in care had been designated to over-see the training of his runners in the lead up to this meeting. Stewards acting under AR8 (m) withdrew trainer M Nyhan’s runners for this race meeting as he had not complied with the provisions of NT Local Rule 77 but were satisfied that the welfare of M Nyhan’s horses had not been compromised during this period. Stewards intend to open an inquiry into this matter at a date to be fixed.
Race 1 Ladbrokes Handicap 1200 metres
MAGNUS BAY (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly getting its head up.
BIT OF A FLIRT (M Hart) – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure down the length of the straight.
ROSTI (W Kerford) – Commenced awkwardly.
KING KAZOU (L Crow) – Dipped on jumping.
ROYAL PARADE (D Morgan) – Bumped with another runner at the 650m. Raced wide throughout.
DREAM PASSENGER (T Gillett) – Shifted outwards at the 650m bumping with another runner.
HOWNOWBROWNCOW (W Davis) – Slow into stride and raced wide throughout. Bumped with another runner at the 650m.
General: On inquiry jockey S Tsaikos (DELIGHTFUL SPIRIT) was found guilty of a charge under AR137(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the end of the race and was fined the sum of $250. S Tsaikos was advised of his right of appeal.
Race 2: Peter Kittle Motor Company Handicap 1100 metres
AMERICAN STAR (R Vigar) – Ridden hard early to secure a forward position.
PRINCESS LEAH (S Wiseman) – Commenced a little awkwardly.
MIGHTY MICK (S Tsaikos) – Commenced to shift outwards under pressure from the 120m bumping with another runner on several occasions.
SHINING MANE (D Morgan) – Lay inwards under pressure over the concluding stages bumping with another runner.
MINTRICE (M Hart) – Knuckled on jumping. Raced wide throughout.
Race 3: 8HA Handicap 1100 metres
NEXT GENERATION (M Hart) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure from the top of the straight.
SABAI SABAI (W Davis) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. After a disappointing performance, a veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Rider reported that in his opinion, the mare struggled on the softer track after her previous runs were on a firm track.
Race 4: Scope Maiden Plate 1000 metres
SNAPPY TIME (T Gillett) – Commenced awkwardly. Impeded for clear running at the 200m.
ZIGZAGZOU (W Davis) – Commenced awkwardly momentarily unbalancing its rider. Raced wide throughout.
CALIFORNIA LAESTAR (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout.
HE’S ALL WHITE (M Hart) – Slow into stride.
CORNERS CAN BE CUT (S Wiseman) – Commenced awkwardly.
