Trainer N Dyer could offer no further explanation as the gelding was having its first on the track and for his stable. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate.

Race 2: 0-58 1100m

ALBERTA MAGIC (K Gladwin) – Bumped across heels at the start. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that near the 700m the runner in advance had steadied when racing keenly and he was obliged to ease his mount and as a result the mare dropped the bit and lost momentum and did not respond to his urgings from thereon. Trainer G Clarke subsequently reported that the mare was receiving treatment for an ulcerated eye.

BEAU GARCON (T Treichel) – Commenced awkwardly. Lay outwards through the middle stages and steadied back from heels near the 700m.

Race 6: 3YO Class 6 1300m

A protest was lodged by jockey M Hart rider of the fifth placegetter AWESOME MO against the fourth placed TREBLA (B Huppatz) alleging interference inside the 200m. After taking evidence from the relevant parties and viewing the patrol vision Stewards were of the opinion that AWESOME MO had sufficient room when racing to the inside of TREBLA in the straight and whilst that gelding did shift in marginally passing the 100m, there was no significant impediment to AWESOME MO and the protest was dismissed.

POET’S LANDING (P Shiers) – Scrambled at the start. Cast the near fore plate in running.

PAGHMAN (K Gladwin) – Commenced awkwardly.

SIR GARFIELD (R Vigar) – Held up for a clear run from the 500m until entering the straight and again impeded leaving the 200m.

Race 7: BM76 1300m

LOTION (W Davis) – Bumped at the start.

WAYANKA (M Hart) – Following the race morning stable compliance checks, the gelding underwent a veterinary examination and was cleared to compete. Commenced awkwardly and bumped.

I AM THE FOX (C Spry) – Trainer/jockey advised that the gelding had been involved in a floating mishap enroute to the course. A veterinary examination revealed the gelding had sustained minor abrasions to both hips and the off stifle but was cleared to compete. The gelding was again assessed in the preliminary and behind the barriers. Bumped at the start. When questioned regarding the performance trainer/jockey advised that the gelding normally gets back in running but when racing first up it had raced keenly in the early stages and settled more forward than expected and was then under pressure leaving the 600m. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Subsequent to the meeting trainer/jockey reported that the gelding was mildly lame in the off stifle.

KRUSTY (M Aitken) – Raced wide throughout.

PATRIA (K Gladwin) – Bumped at the start. Restrained from heels passing the 1100m. Trainer G Clarke subsequently reported that the gelding was receiving treatment for an ulcerated eye.

General – On inquiry jockey V Arnott (COONAWARRA) was found guilty of engaging in careless riding under AR131(a) with the specifics being that approaching the 1100m she failed to make sufficient effort to prevent her mount from shifting inwards resulting in PATRIA (K Gladwin) having to be restrained from heels. V Arnott was suspended from riding in races for 1 NT meeting to expire after 29 June, 2019.
