LOCK THE DOORS (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner. Began to yield ground from the 650m finishing well back. After a disappointing performance, a subsequent veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. When questioned, rider could offer no plausible explanation for the performance other than that the gelding was off the bit in running and may not have suited to racing back in the field. Trainer L Whittle was of the same opinion that the gelding did not appear to stretch out when unable to race up on the speed.

Despite being ridden vigorously by its rider, the gelding began to yield ground from the 700m before making up some ground over the final 100m. Following the disappointing performance, a post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

After the unplaced performance, a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities other than the gelding having a slightly elevated temperature. General: Stewards interviewed trainer L Whittle in relation to LOCK THE DOORS, WINGARD and DENATIN performing below expectations at today’s meeting. Whilst no significant abnormalities were found by the Club veterinarian on examination, Ms Whittle advised that she would have blood tests taken from each runner and when analysed she would advise Stewards accordingly of the results. She further undertook not to race LOCK THE DOORS or WINGATE for a period of at least 2 weeks and may review this decision depending on the blood test results.

Post-race samples were taken from all winners.

Pre-race samples taken from KUMMERLINGS, CARIBBEAN KISSES, GAUGUIN, OUR BARTY, INNOCENT TONY & CLEVER TOMMY
