General: All runners engaged in the Pioneer Sprint were subject to a veterinary examination on Friday 1 May and the Alice Springs Cup runners on Saturday 2 May, 2020.

Stewards permitted a gear request from trainer G Clarke for ARDIZZONE (race 4) to wear a tongue tie after racing at ASTC on 1 May, 2020.

On inquiry, trainer T Halter pleaded guilty to a breach of AR104(1) with the specifics being that in the lead up to 25 April, 2020, she did fail to record treatments administered to multiple horses trained by her when stabled at lot 4 Heath Road Alice Springs. T Halter was fined the sum of $500 and advised of her right of appeal.

 

Race 1 BT Dailey Painting Handicap 1200m

Stewards interviewed trainer S Westover in regards to the riding instructions he intended to issue his riders bearing in mind he had multiple runners.

MILITARY ROAD (K Gladwin) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and raced wide throughout.

SOLDEROFTHEBRAVE (J Todd) – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure down the length of the straight.

DUKE OF HEARTS (R Vigar) – Veered inwards on jumping bumping with another runner on jumping.

BLUE JEAN BABY (P Shiers) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Began to yield ground from the 450m. When questioned rider advised that his mount had raced comfortably in running until coming under pressure mid race and in his opinion as the filly was having it’s first start on the track surface would gain benefit from the run.

MISS HARDROCK (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly and refused to take part in the event veering outwards sharply causing its rider to become unbalanced and subsequently dismounting. Trainer S Westover was advised that the filly must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

STILL JUSTIFIED (T Treichel) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

Race 2: Gallagher Insurance Handicap 1100m

BRAZILLANT (K Gladwin) – Fractious in the barriers.

RAWTEKK (W Kerford) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

RHYTHMICAL (L Crow) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and raced wide throughout.

VALENCIANO (J Todd) – Slow into stride bumping with another runner.

DUVET (T Treichel) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and raced wide throughout.

Race 3: JJ’s Waste & Recycling Handicap 1000m

FIONNLAGH (D Morgan) – Shifted outwards at the 200m under pressure.

REGAL CAPITAL (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner.

JAILHOUSE ROCK (T Treichel) – Slow into stride. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider reported that after being slow into stride, the gelding got back further than anticipated and was overall disappointing. A veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

WHITWORTH (L Crow) – Commenced awkwardly momentarily unbalancing its rider and bumping with another runner. Cast both hind plates during running.

SAMIYOMAR (W Kerford) – Raced wide throughout the event.

GRANDE CASTAGNO (S Tsaikos) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Taken outwards slightly by another runner at the 200m.

ARRIBA (W Davis) – Commenced to shift outwards under pressure from the 150m.

LISA (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Crowded for room at the 200m when racing forward between runners having to take hold.

INNOCENT TONY (B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.

General: Stewards inquired into the reason LISA (R Vigar) lost ground at the 200m. It was established that LISA when attempting to improve between runners was tightened for room and checked when GRANDE CASTAGNO (S Tsaikos) which shifted out when being ridden along. In this incident FIONNLAGH (D Morgan) also shifted out slightly under pressure and dictated the racing line of GRANDE CASTAGNO and INNOCENT TONY (B Huppatz) which was racing to the outside also shifted in marginally. After considering the contributing factors in this incident, Stewards were satisfied that no rider had ridden in a careless manner and therefore no further action was warranted.

Race 4: Sky Channel Handicap 2000m

GAUGUIN (S Tsaikos) – Raced keenly into the first turn.

SKALDAK (P Shiers) – Inclined to over-race in the early stages getting its head up. Rider advised that in his opinion, the gelding travelled well until the 600m and did not finish the race off as anticipated.

HILLBILLY RICH (R Vigar) – Raced wide into the home turn and down the length of the straight.

ARDIZZONE (J Todd) – Began to yield ground from the 800m and finished well back. A veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. As the gelding had raced in a similar manner on Friday 1 May, 2020, trainer G Clarke was advised that the gelding must barrier trial in a competitive manner to the satisfaction of the Stewards prior to racing again.

Race 5: Gillen Club Handicap 1600m

After winning at ASTC on 1 May, 2020, RADIO ROOM was re handicapped and carried 61kg in this event.

RADIO ROOM (R Vigar) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Held up for clear running from the 400m until the 250m.

SIR GARFIELD (S Tsaikos) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

BIT OF A FLIRT (K Gladwin) – Raced wide throughout.

SO INSPIRING (B Huppatz) – Fractious in the barriers before bounding on jumping and losing ground. Began to yield ground from the 600m finishing well back. A post-race veterinary inspection failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.

OLIVARES (C Hunter) – Raced wide throughout.

TOMAHAWK LAD (S Tsaikos) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

RHTHYM OF CUBA (B Huppatz) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Inclined to lay outwards under pressure down the length of the straight.

REMODIFY (K Gladwin) – Fractious in the barriers and raced wide throughout.

BABE IN BOOTS ( W Kerford) – Inclined to lay outwards under pressure from the 200m.

HUSSON PARK (T Treichel) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MAID IN MILAN (S Tsaikos) – Slow into stride.

SHOAL RIVER (L Crow) – Raced wide throughout the event.

Race 8: Peter Kittle Motor Company Pioneer Sprint 1200m

Stewards interviewed trainer W Savage in regards to the riding instructions he intended to issue his riders bearing in mind he had multiple runners in the event.

THE CAPTAIN (J Todd) – Following the unplaced performance a veterinary inspection of the gelding revealed superficial self inflicted lacerations on the medial aspect of the left hind limb.

EASTWOOD (R Vigar) – Rider reported that his mount was struck in the head by a solid clod of dirt mid race and consequently lost momentum for a short distance.

SO STOIC (K Gladwin) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

SUPER BRYAN ( B Huppatz) – Commenced awkwardly.

GOLDEN DICE (T Treichel) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

WAYANKA (C Hunter) – Bumped with another runner on jumping momentarily becoming unbalanced.

TRYSTOFF (D Morgan) – Knuckled slightly on jumping.

RANSOM MONEY (S Tsaikos) – Bumped with another runner on jumping and steadied off heels shortly after jumping.

Race 9: Ladbrokes Alice Springs Cup 2000m

PERESSINI – was declared a late scratching at 2:02 on veterinary advice when diagnosed with a bout of hives caused by an allergic reaction to insect bites.

As there was no book-maker on-course, no deductions were applicable.

PINZU (B Huppatz) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

THATS JUSTIFIED (W Kerford) – Yielded ground from the 800m. A subsequent veterinary inspection of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities. Trainer T Gillett was of the opinion that the gelding may have got its tongue over the bit and therefore he would consider placing a tongue tie on the gelding for its next start.

DOON BUGGY (C Hunter) – Slow away.

FLYING TORMENTA (T Treichel) – Slow into stride. Commenced to race wide from the 800m.

LOTION (P Shiers) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MODERNAS ARROW (L Crow) – Raced wide throughout the event.
