TACITURN (J Todd) – Bumped at the start. DEFENCE ATTORNEY (P Shiers) – When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised after his mount commenced awkwardly and was bumped he had been unable to race in a prominent position as anticipated and the gelding then resented the kickback in running. A veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities but it was noted the gelding coughed post race.
ESCONDIDO (K Gladwin) – Raced wide for the majority.
IRON CURTAIN (C Hunter) – Bumped at the start.
MEDAGLIA VELOCE (V Arnott) – Raced wide throughout.
FORT NECESSITY (B Huppatz) – Clipped heels and mistrode passing the 700m and became unbalanced when racing ungenerously near the 500m.

General – On inquiry it was established that approaching the 700m CLEESE (T Treichel) shifted out slightly when negotiating the turn and as a result FORT NECESSITY ( B Huppatz) which was following contacted heels and mistrode. Approaching the 500m FORT NECESSITY veered out when racing ungenerously and the rider became unbalanced. Jockey B Huppatz was of the opinion that the gelding may race more tractably with the addition of pacifiers and trainer C Pollard agreed.
